Raices (NO RESERVATIONS) — Restaurant in Valencia

Service by management: bad and intolerant. In detail: We wanted to eat in a group of 8 people. 4 of us (adults) arrived a bit earlier, the other 4 (teenagers around 14 years) arrived a little later. Entering the restaurant, which was not at all packed by that time, the waiter confirmed it won't be a problem to sit together later on. So he seated us at a table for four. Meanwhile we already ordered the food (one menu each, 16€ per person, plus drinks). When the 4 others arrived, there were only two other guests in the restaurant. Now it happened to be a problem to seat the 8 of us together, for instance moving another table to ours. Moving the table wouldn't be a problem, but apparently it was only possible to seat maximum 7 people at once. (Sounds ridiculous, but makes totally sense to the restaurant's boss although one seat at the table could be easily placed by an 8th person.) Sooo, what did we do? We didn't leave the restaurant because 4 of us already had ordered and it would've been impolite to leave. To not make any more problems we decided to sit seperately at two tables of 4. By that time (about 2.30pm) only two other guests were at that place, so we don't see the point of not being flexible (= pretty bad service). The waiter (who is not to be blaimed because always asked the boss for our concerns) said his questionable boss doesn't like to see tables of 8. Just tell us beforehand?? The 4 others then wanted to share one pizza, because they thought two of them is too pricy for them. 12€ for a kind of small margherita. The waiter then let us know it's only possible to share a pizza among two persons. Got it. But we were a group of 8 people, with four menus (= pizza + dessert) and one pizza. Not being able doing the maths he said it has to be per table. Since the four teenagers sat at one table (which was by the way because we are polite guests without leaving, nor making trouble) they could not share only one but two pizzas - basically forcing them to order at least another 12€ pizza. It doesn't seem that the boss knows anything about making his guests feeling comfortable since we had to be the ones making the whole situation less problematic. I hope the restaurant enjoyed us being their polite guests - not gonna happen again. Hence it's not recommendable! Go spend money where they not only see your money, but also like to...

Exceptional pizza! 😍 I’ve never had such a delicious pizza before! Seriously! The dough is amazing. The pizza’s border is fluffy and light. The middle is super thin. The tomato sauce is made from very ripe and fresh tomatoes - you can taste the sweetness of the fresh tomatoes. The olive oil is another level! Mouthwatering 🤤 the pizzas are on the expensive side, but this is due to quality of the ingredients which you can taste. I took margherita and it was exquisite 🤌 You can also order sweet pizza filled with pistachio cream - do it! The place is small, and there is always a line of people waiting for a free table. Once seated, expect to wait a bit for the pizza (I waited in total 30minutes cuz there were many orders before me and there is just one pizzaiolo). The owner makes the pizzas himself (he’s the pizzaiolo:)). He’s very friendly, likes to chat, allows you to take pictures of him prepping the pizzas. Raíces is a contemporary Neapolitan pizzeria, located just a few steps from Plaza de la Virgen, in the historical (and pedestrian) centre of Valencia.

The place is pretty small (about 15 tables for 2 people) and basic (from the decoration to the menu, where you can find exclusively 8 different pizzas, drinks and dessert)

Pizzas are tall, soft and light, not too big and, most important, delicious.

Funny fact: No cutlery is provided but you will be given a special scissors, in order to eat with hands as true Neapolitan tradition requires. Not asked but I am sure that on-demand one can get forks and knives 😁

For restaurant policy, reservations are not taken. Consequently, also due to the dimensions of the venue, waiting outside is probable.
