The Othilio Bar — Restaurant in Vigo

The Othilio Bar and Restaurant is one of Vigo's "hot spots" simply because it is a wonderful experience of all the senses. The food is of great quality. It is the base of this restaurant. Galicia has a tremendous natural quality and variety of fish, seafood, vegetables and meats. In Spain when it comes to food, Galicia means quality and variety and yes, also price. If this restaurant was in New York, for example, the prices would be astronomical and the waiting list would be months in advance. In Vigo it is a must to reserve in advance as reservations are usually filled two to three days in advance, specially in winter. The place is run by twin brothers. One in the kitchen and another serving and attending Customers all the while helped by a very efficient and attentive staff which has been there since the start and that makes a big difference. It is also located in a beautiful part of town just behind the Plaza de Compostela with ample parking nearby. Try the marinated sea bass (Lubina Marinada) and the laminated octopus (carpacho de pulpo) or the gambas rebozadas (breaded shrimp) and accompany it with a bottle of "2AMIGOS" white wine Albariño. The best meal we’ve had in Vigo, Galicia, and top 5 in Spain! What a wonderful experience and a pleasant surprise. Everything from the excellent service and the lovely atmosphere, to the amazingly delicious food was perfect. And the portions are very generous.

The bread course comes with truffle butter that is amazing. The foie gras was great. The tempura shrimp appetizer was perfect, good crunch, and great sauces too. The lamb was sooooo delicious, perfectly cooked, wonderful sauce, and cheesy whipped potatoes. The large scallop was very good. Oh, and the rice pudding with cinnamon ice cream was to die for, seriously drool-worthy.

Darle una segunda oportunidad a este restaurante fue un error imperdonable. Tras una primera experiencia mediocre, decidí regresar con la esperanza de encontrar mejoras, pero lamentablemente solo encontré una repetición de los mismos fallos, e incluso algunos nuevos.

El descontento con este restaurante es profundo. El trato recibido fue pésimo; el personal exhibe una actitud arrogante y prepotente que resulta sumamente desagradable. La lentitud del servicio es exasperante, con esperas de más de 30 minutos entre platos, a pesar de haber pedido solo cuatro cosas sencillas. Si hubiéramos solicitado una mayor variedad, probablemente habríamos terminado de cenar a altas horas de la madrugada.

Aún peor fue la experiencia con las bebidas: tras pedir una segunda ronda, pasaron 30 minutos sin que nos la sirvieran, y tuvimos que recordarlo hasta tres veces. Cuando mencionamos nuestra insatisfacción al camarero, su respuesta fue grosera y descortés. Esta falta de profesionalismo es una constante entre todo el personal, quienes actúan de manera despectiva y carecen de habilidades sociales básicas.

En ningún momento se disculparon ni ofrecieron una solución a nuestros problemas. La comida es mediocre y no justifica su precio. Además, intentaron cobrarnos por artículos que no habíamos solicitado.

En resumen, darles una segunda oportunidad fue una pérdida de tiempo y dinero. Mala comida, esperas interminables y un servicio deplorable hacen de este lugar una experiencia que nadie debería soportar. Definitivamente, no pienso volver y aconsejo a todos que eviten este restaurante...
