I was drawn to this place due to the numerous good reviews and how busy the place is on weekends. Having finally tried the foodand experienced their service, I'd say that they are over-hyped and overrated. It's near impossible to get a table indoors on weekends, which I can understand and I have no complaints there. I was quite content to have a outdoor table rather than sit indoors in a cramped space with loud customers everywhere. It took three requests before the staff finally gave us glasses of water while we waited for our meals. The bearded waiter with spectacles who served it, spilled most of the water on the table, didn't apologise and did not offer to refill the glasses. The iced chocolates we ordered might as well have been called iced milk - absolutely no chocolate in it. just a squirt or two of chocolate dessert dressing and a whole lot of milk - a very disappointing start. The first dish finally arrived after we reminded them twice to check on our orders, even though the tables around us who ordered after us, got served well before us. The Turkish Eggs arrived cold. There was no point asking it to be reheated, since the poached eggs wouldn't be soft, so we ate it cold. It was good and unique, so no complaints. The bacon chilli jam and Dhal were a nice touch. The Croque Madame arrived some time later and was cold as well. Had to ask that to be reheated. I have had mouthwatering Croque Monsieurs before and this was just glorified Kade Paan with an average filling. Even the Bechamel didn't taste right. I was willing to shrug off all of the above due it being a busy day and the staff are human too. I've worked in the service industry and I'm sympathetic to things like these. What really ticked me off was that while the other tables requested for the bill once they finished their meals, we were given the bill way before we finished eating. Like, why? Then comes the bearded waiter with spectacles to ask if us if we're finished eating and and if we have paid the bill yet or not! I told him that as he can clearly see, we're still eating. He left without a word. We finally finished eating, got the attention of another waiter to pay the bill and that was it. The bearded waiter with spectacles comes again and opens the bill folder to check if we have paid, asking me yet again if I paid the bill. I told him off saying I've already paid the bill and that we're leaving. That guy needs a serious lesson on basic manners and training on how to be a respectful waiter. Pilawoos waiters know to be more polite than him. I guess you have to loud and obnoxious like most of the other customers who come here to get respectful treatment. Politeness and quietness don't seem to be behaviour these guys understand. Can't say I'm...
Read moreThis place is truly a hidden gem! I first visited with my friends, and from the moment I tasted the food, I was hooked. The experience was so incredible that I couldn't wait to bring my colleagues. They were equally impressed, and we all ended up loving every dish we tried.
One standout for me was the Siam Ceylon, a dish that combines milky kiribath with Thai red curry, fried seeni sambol, chili jam, and bacon ends. The kiribath bowl were by far the best I've ever had, and the Thai red curry was perfectly crafted, bringing out an amazing depth of flavor that paired wonderfully with the kiribath. Mixing everything together created a delightful, contemporary twist on the traditional kiribath that I can't get enough of. The portion size was generous, and the presentation was flawless. This dish is priced at 2500 LKR.
Another favorite of mine was the Dos Tacos. Two soft tacos filled with labneh, mango sauce, fresh onions, pickled red cabbage, and herbs. I chose the pulled chicken option, and it was incredible. The tacos were huge and bursting with flavor. The pulled chicken was tender and packed inside generously, creating a perfect bite. The balance of the pickled flavors, mango sauce, and chicken transported me straight to Mexico. The presentation was stunning, vibrant, and very Instagram-worthy! This dish is priced at 2300 LKR.
We also tried the Katsu Sando, which featured mild milk bread, Asian cole slaw, pickled cucumber, sriracha mayo, and kithul chili paste with chicken. At 2800 LKR, this dish was another showstopper. The milk bread was incredibly soft and unique, and it truly elevated the experience. The chicken was substantial and juicy, and once again, the presentation was nothing short of beautiful.
Although the place is cozy, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, always full of happy people enjoying their meals. The interior is thoughtfully designed, and every dish is a work of art. For the quality, portion size, and the richness of flavor, this place offers great value for money. I can't wait to return again and again for the unforgettable food and...
Read moreThis is a nice little place and I can imagine it being so crowded on a weekend. If you are around the area this place is a must not only because of the great food and drinks, but also of how sweet everyone there is! Highly recommended!
We went on a weekday for brunch. We had the Siam Ceylon (kiribath with Thai curry) since it was a highly recommended dish, Lankan Benny with Polos, Ceylon turkish eggs , Shakshuka with pulled chicken and Smokey Eggplant Superbowl. I have to say that all the items on the menu are a fusion and very creative.
I can understand why the Kiribath and Thai curry are a fan favorite. The curry has got the right amount of sweet and spiciness and was perfect. the kiribath was really creamy as well. Lankan Benny was good, Polos was a tad bit salty and we couldn't find the seeni sambol on that. Ceylon Turkish eggs and Shakshuka were also really great. It was served with Garlic roast paan that was really yummy. The Smokey Eggplant was the one that was least liked by us . It felt like the eggplant we had was a tad bit charred creating an unpleasant taste.
For drinks we had the Kithul iced coffee and the Cucmber Lime and mint cooler. Both drinks were really great!
We were celebrating a birthday and they were really nice enough to light a candle and play and sing Happy Birthday. That was really sweet of them and we really appreciate it.
We spoke with Tash the owner and she was very sweet to answer our questions, accommodate our requests and we were really happy we chose this place to celebrate the birthday of...
