Kiku is my new fresh food craze. The minimalist menu has a number of noteworthy, exotically paired fusion dishes (and I counted about half a dozen vegetarian options). Unfortunately most of the options were not available when we were there so we had to pick sparingly from the possibilities. While menu shortages can crimp ones style/cravings - we have no regrets. Every bite was delicately balanced and packed with flavor. Raving about the underestimated Tomago Bagel: sweet omlette, salty oyster mushrooms and spicy wasabi mayo sandwiched between one fat bagel. While we had also had the cucumber salad with miso soup, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it (unless you have an insatiable love for cucumbers cos there's a ton).
Similarly, most of the deserts we wanted were sadly unavailable, though we were there at peak dinner time. Out of the 2 available options we opted for the red pom pom, a delicately balanced sorbet topped with fresh strawberries and pomegranate. Definitely something I would go back for again and again.
One has to give a short out to the deco team. Really enjoyed the vibe. Impeccably decorated with a lot of fresh light and many Instaworthy angles. It's also the kind of place one can easily imagine cozying up for hours with work and a steady stream of coffee. As a health and environmentally conscious community oriented 'green business', Kiku also hosts informal workshops on reducing food waste, events to stimulate art and culture &c. Staff are adorable and friendly (though can be slightly in your face about ordering).
What we recommend: Appetizers: N/A (no appetizers on the menu) Mains: Tamago Bagel Desserts: Red pom pom Drinks: Elderflower & rosemary soda, charcoal latte and the cappuccino
What we do not recommend: The Orange and carrot juice, it didn't seem freshly pressed and the orange was...

Read moreI recently visited KIKU Colombo, nestled above Shirohana Romantico on Dickman’s Road in Colombo 5, and it was an experience that delighted all the senses.
The ambiance is serene and beautifully minimalist, with soft pastel tones, abundant natural light, and thoughtfully placed greenery creating a calming atmosphere. It’s a perfect spot to unwind, whether you’re catching up with friends or seeking a peaceful solo retreat.
KIKU’s menu is a creative fusion of Japanese and European influences, offering a variety of dishes that are both visually stunning and flavorful. I tried the Wafu Katsu Pasta, which featured silken tofu steak, shiitake mushrooms, toasted nori, and a soy butter sauce—an umami-rich combination that was truly satisfying. The Sasebo Burger, with its juicy Australian beef patty, caramelized onions, shiitake mushrooms, fried egg, and special Sasebo sauce, was another standout, offering a hearty and flavorful bite.
For dessert, the Poached Pear, cooked in yuzu and turmeric and served with gingerbread and white chocolate mousse, was a delightful end to the meal—perfectly balancing sweet and tangy flavors.
The staff at KIKU were warm and attentive, contributing to the overall welcoming atmosphere. Their commitment to creativity and quality is evident in every aspect of the café, from the thoughtfully curated menu to the aesthetically pleasing interior design.
