We visited Clippenberg by Bastille around 7 PM, and I was super excited to check out the place after seeing their TikTok videos and Facebook photos. However, I was a bit disappointed because the real scenery didn’t quite match the images. I expected a neatly maintained grass lawn, but the grass was overgrown. It would look much better if it were trimmed properly.

Also, the entrance name board could use some lighting to make it more attractive and easier to find, especially at night. Inside the cafe, the lighting was good. But outside, it was too dark with poor lighting. If you can add Candle lights could be a nice touch and make it easier to read the menu.

Now, about the food – The portions were exactly as they described – double portions – and everything was delicious. We ordered fried rice and cheese kottu, and they were both excellent. There were four of us, and we were all full after just two portions!

When it comes to drinks, the watermelon juice (Rs. 950) was very disappointing – 2/10. However, the mango milkshake (Rs. 1200) was fantastic – 10/10! The pineapple juice (Rs. 950) was okay – I’d rate it 5/10.

One thing that stood out negatively was cleanliness. After the previous customers left, the table wasn’t cleaned, and I had to ask for serviettes to clean it myself. That gave me a bad impression. It would be better if the staff cleaned tables immediately after customers leave.

If you’re looking for a calm and beautiful escape in Galle Fort, Clippenberg Restaurant & Cafe by Bastille is a place worth discovering. Nestled in a serene location, the atmosphere is cozy and peaceful, making it the perfect place to unwind. The evenings here are magical as you get to witness a breathtaking sunset with a picture-perfect view that feels straight out of a postcard.

The food deserves a special mention. Portions are generous, the flavors are on point, and each dish is presented in an appealing and attractive way. All this comes at reasonable prices which is a bonus for such a great dining experience.

However, there are a few downsides to consider. Unfortunately, there are no washrooms or toilets available which can be inconvenient for some visitors. Also, while the summer huts add to the charm, they don’t hold up well during heavy rain, making it difficult to stay dry and comfortable inside.

We recently celebrated my niece’s 6th birthday at Clippenberg Restaurant & Cafe by Bastille, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience.

We ordered quite a spread — six plates of fried rice, four nasi goreng, three plates of French fries, a delicious omelet, ten soft drinks, and six milkshakes. Every dish was cooked to perfection, seasoned just right, and served piping hot. The flavors really stood out, and everyone at the table couldn’t stop raving about the food!

A special shoutout to the staff — they were absolutely brilliant. Despite a busy evening, they went above and beyond to make the moment extra special for our little birthday girl, all while seamlessly attending to other guests too. Their warmth and attentiveness really added a personal touch to the celebration.

And then there’s the view — breathtaking doesn't even begin to describe it. Watching the golden sunset over the fort while enjoying great food and company was just magical.
