I'm once again confused by the number of stars at this restaurant.
It's a dumpling place first and foremost. I'm no expert but here is what's wrong according to me as I ordered Wontons:
— The wontons fall apart easily just by its own weight when you try to eat it with the chopsticks (and yes I'm very good with chopsticks, also it's the only utensil they provide).
—The dough mix is possibly to blame or it was overcooked. But also I have eaten the real deal before in Singapore, and it was the tastiest meal I had in the city. And from a humble but busy restaurant, nothing fancy. So I had the original thing before.
— This chili oil had no taste (not that it wasn't spicy enough, just very watered down). Also the amount of meat to dough ration is just ridiculous even knowing that wontons usually have a smaller pocket than dumplings do.
— And sadly my oolong iced tea, soda, rosemary stalk, and peach syrup just doesn't taste much (like the dumplings actually). Even the peach syrup seems to be overpowered by the soda taste.
— Lastly, they charge you a 10% service charge because it's a lot of work to remind everyone that they should go themselves to the counter to order food (and run the risk of getting their belongings being stolen or lose their place) 🙅🏼♂️🤬
— Also they make you pay before you even receive foods... In a sit down restaurant 🤷🏼♂️
As a client you lose any leverage to complain for bad food if you pay up front. It's like a weird mix of a "hole in the wall" and proper "sit down" restaurant. With none of the advantages of both for the clients but the House gets all the benefits.
I definitely overpaid for this quality of foods in my opinion. Don't go here and try your luck elsewhere 🤷🏼♂️
(You can see in my picture how much of a mess it is. You cannot even clearly see how many wontons you get and it keeps breaking apart when you pick it up which is very frustrating)
EDIT 2: I'm sorry I have made a mistake writing this review. It's true that I ordered the wontons, and that's what I meant to write about but somehow I got carried away with...

Read moreAfter an exhaustive sightseeing spree, our hunger led us to the delightful oasis that is "Dumplings Cafe" in Galle. Stepping in, we found ourselves enveloped in a soothing sea of light green, my personal favorite hue. The hardworking and incredibly kind staff immediately set the tone for a pleasant dining experience.
Ascending to the upstairs restrooms, we were pleasantly surprised by their impeccable cleanliness—no unpleasant odors in sight. Opting for the outdoor seating amidst the lush greenery, we marveled at the well-thought design that combated the scorching weather with strategically placed fans.
Our elation continued as we delved into the menu. To beat the heat, we sipped on an "Iced Matcha Latte" and "Iced Cinnamon Latte," priced at a reasonable 850 LKR each, both served with papaya stem straw, which was very good for the environment! For the main act, opting for lighter fare, we relished the "Fried Prawn Dumplings" and "Boiled/Steamed Chicken Dumplings," each priced at 1980 LKR. Each plate generously adorned with 10 delectable dumplings accompanied by a tantalizing bowl of spicy chili paste with oil.
"Dumplings Cafe" not only satisfied our hunger but left an indelible mark of flavor and warmth. A gem in Galle, balancing culinary excellence and ambiance with finesse! 🥟🍵 #DumplingsDelight...
