Church Street Gourmet NOW serving Italian coffees!! Espresso, Cappuccino, Latte, Americano-hot/cold, they are now serving what many of us travellers seem to crave as we roam away from home, a taste of familiarity, and a really great coffee using a Sri Lankan sourced coffee bean that gives the Italian brands a run for their money! Stop in for a cappi and stay for a meal. Church Street Gourmet is located in The Fort House Hotel, in Galle Fort, where I had an extended stay, long enough to have tried practically everything on the CSG menu. From birria tacos to pasta, beef kabobs and chicken tandoori sticks, cucumber hummus bites, chicken wraps to fresh salads and a delicious prawn curry, all the dishes on the menu are freshly prepared, healthy with a simple homemade flair, and fresh delicious flavors. Their prawns are always fresh, and the tuna fillet is fresh and grilled to your liking. There are vegetarian options. For drinks they offer a locally made kombucha (passion fruit is my favorite), fruit juices, ices made with mint, lime, passion fruit, or ginger, a tasty iced tea, a pot of Sri Lankan coffee or a nice pot of hot tea. We stumbled upon Church Street Gourmet quite by accident while wandering through the charming streets — and what a delightful surprise it turned out to be!
From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and a cozy yet refined atmosphere. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between casual comfort and upscale dining, making it ideal for both relaxed dinners and special evenings out.

This place is a true hidden gem, blending exceptional taste with great service and charm. Whether you're a local or a tourist, Church Street Gourmet is...

BUT the thing that really annoyed me was the service charge. 10% of the meal cost! Only just yesterday we had an evening meal at the #1 restaurant in Galle and we were treated to excellent service at a cost of 350rps. We have always happily paid a service charge… but 10% for poor service spoilt the evening. The waiter showed us in small print on the placemats that 10% is charged. So we paid it . I would say…. Try...
