Perfect Dining Experience at Maru Restaurant - A Must Visit in Galle Fort
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Maru Restaurant in Galle Fort with two of my friends, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish! Nestled just a short stroll from the iconic Galle Fort Lighthouse, Maru offers the perfect setting for a relaxing meal after exploring the historic town.
Food (5/5): The food at Maru is simply divine. Each dish we ordered was bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. The menu offers a wonderful selection, catering to all tastes, and we were particularly impressed with how fresh and well-balanced everything was. Whether you're a fan of seafood, traditional Sri Lankan cuisine, or something a bit more international, you're in for a treat. Every bite was delicious, leaving us eager to try even more dishes on our next visit!
Service (5/5): The service at Maru is truly top-notch. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were attentive and friendly throughout our entire meal. The waitstaff was knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer recommendations based on our preferences. We never felt rushed, yet everything was served promptly, with genuine smiles and professionalism. It’s clear that customer satisfaction is a top priority here.
Ambience & Interior Design (5/5): The interior of Maru is a perfect blend of modern elegance and calm serenity. The design is tasteful, with subtle touches that reflect the charm of Galle Fort's historic surroundings. We were instantly taken by the calm and relaxing atmosphere, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Whether you're sitting indoors or at one of the outdoor tables, the ambiance is perfectly suited for a laid-back meal with friends or family.
Value for Money (5/5): Given the quality of the food, the excellent service, and the beautiful setting, Maru offers incredible value for money. The portions are generous, and we were pleasantly surprised by how affordable the meal was, especially for a restaurant located in such a prime spot within the fort. Every penny felt well spent.
Location (5/5): The location of Maru is ideal, just a stone's throw away from the Galle Fort Lighthouse. It’s perfect for those looking to enjoy a delicious meal after a day of sightseeing in the fort. The restaurant's central position makes it easily accessible, yet it feels wonderfully peaceful and removed from the busier streets.

Read moreYesterday we had lunch as Maru as a group of 5. It is highly recommended to make table reservations, especially if you wish to sit inside in the air-conditioned room (pretty small). We opted for a table at the veranda, from where we could watch the life passing by. The menu offers a variety of interesting choices. Especially the "poke bowls" many people are raving about. The service is friendly, and they are making you feel welcome. We started with vegetable Gyoza and avocado/cucumber bites. Both were nicely presented and tasted good. With some of the poke bowls we ordered, we did not have so much luck. The katsu chicken curry had too much rice, which was lukewarm, the curry not very tasty, the extras of pickled cucumbers and coleslaw were very small. The pieces of fried chicken were crispy and tasted good. My wife's sira salmon poke bowl was quite disappointing. All of the lettuce were totally wilted, for which the servant excused this as a result of the soy sauce added (even my wife asked for no soy sauce at all). Fresh lettuce was then served without any sauce. The personalized bowl of our friend took a long time to arrive when we were already finished with our meals. It tasted ok. I could overhear a conversation on a neighbouring table, who also was not happy with their choice of bowl. The inconveniences we experienced were compensated with some free drinks. Thank you. A very big thank you goes to the servant who provided me with an ice pack, I needed to cool my hip after a fall. I would only return for the atmosphere, the attentive service, however not for the poke bowls. Prices are on...
