The moment that we walked into this restaurant, we were whisked away from lovely Gothenburg and returned to our home town of Kansas City just by the enticing smells wafting through the building. Since we had not made a table reservation, we were directed upstairs to the bar where we found that we could choose to sit outside and hang without a time limit. After you find a table you get a puck that will notify when you can go downstairs to order food rather than waiting in a crowded queue. While we waited we order drinks from the bar and found some really unique options. One of these was a collaboration they do with Tempel Brygghus to make their own version of cherry cola, which isn't as sweet as the name brand. With this they do a house mix with bourbon to make a tasty mixed cocktail. When we went down to order food, the menu is posted up on the wall and as they run out of an item for the day it's removed so you automatically know what is available. You tell those behind the counter what type of protein you want first, and you order it by weight. After the protein you order sides. We tried just about everything on the menu, and nothing disappointed. The Brisket, had good texture, was tender and juicy. Not a lot of direct flavor to interfere with any of the sauces you may want to add that are available on the table. The pulled pork was also tender and had nice flavor, although little heavy on the tomato flavoring of the sauce. The chicken is baked in small packets with the bacon pieces; lots of flavor, and so juicy tender. The burnt ends aren't "burnt" and crunchy like you would think or as they are in Kansas City BBQ joints, but don't let that fool you! Because despite that, they are in the KC BBQ sauce, and still just as enticing as the rest! The mac and cheese is just so thick and creamy with a distinctive flavor, this cheesy sauce has the slightest hint of jalapeño flavor mixed in there. And last but certainly not least, the cornbread; it was good a little on the dense side but could only be improved by being served warm. It comes with honey butter which really tops it off for that hint of sweetness craved. There are 3 sauces available on the table: a Kansas city style, a Texas style, and a South Carolina style. Now if you don't have a comparison for any of these, they are delectable in their own way; however if you do have a comparison, the Texas and South Carolina are off just slightly from what you may be expecting, but that is not to say they're bad, because they certainly aren't! The service was great and the workers so kind and helpful if you need guidance on what to pick (bc with all the options it is certainly hard to choose!). I cannot recommend this place enough and cannot wait to return to it myself for another taste of home when I'm missing...
Read moreSpent almost an hour waiting, didn't get food, and left. Maybe because I'm Asian. But hopefully it's because there is no sense of ownership and lack of accountability from all staff.
I arrived at the restaurant at around 1.45pm on a Saturday and it wasn't even packed. Lots of empty tables indoors. Went upstairs to get help, and the waiting staff came down with menus and a buzzer. All was going good.
Half an hour later, the buzzer still hasn't buzzed, but the table that arrived after us has gotten their turn and has started eating. The waiting staff saw that and probably felt it was weird, took a look at my buzzer number and left. I went in to the ordering area downstairs, and tried telling the staff that at least 2 groups that arrived after me had their turn already. And he replied in an annoyed tone to tell me to "just wait for the buzzer to call me" twice and that he couldn't do anything.
So, I went upstairs to ask the staff that served me initially, and she agreed that it was weird. I waited for her to finish serving the previous customer to speak to her again. And she said she will check downstairs. She went down the staff stairs and I went back to my table thinking she would solve the issue.
Now, it had been 50 minutes after we arrived, hungry, annoyed, and we had no updates on the situation. I went back upstairs to find the waiting staff serving another customer, so I waited again. Then, I asked what was happening, and she said she was not sure, but she will ask the staff downstairs again.
55 minutes in, but the lack of action of all staff to resolve the situation and my really hungry tummy (and my hungry toddler) urged me to leave. Without food.
Maybe I dodged a bullet looking at the 1 star reviews. Too pricey to get bad service. Won't be going back again. If you cannot manage your staff, you probably can't...
Read moreFood: The worst BBQ I've ever had at a restaurant. We ordered the table breaker. Some of the meat was hard as leather. Obviously overcooked. The worst part is that every single piece of meat we had was lukewarm. It must have been out for a while? The sides were disappointing, coleslaw tasted like the prepackaged one you can buy in a grocery store. The bread was literally a piece of slices bread, like the one you buy in the grocery store. See my picture. Is that Eldorado?? The edge was stale, showing that this had also been standing out for a while. How is that possible when we arrived at 18:00? Eventually we finish the dish, but nobody at our table enjoyed the food. I can definitely think of better ways to spend 299kr. The only decent part of this was the beer, which cost me around 129kr for a glass. After that disappointing meal, I did not want a refill.
Service: We had a booking. I arrive, nobody meets us at the door. There is a bar in the front, but they seem to be ignoring us. Finally, we figure out ourselves that we need to go upstairs to get seated. We do so and get a table. More waiting around, but no waiter shows up at our table. I end up picking up water and cutlery for our table. After a while, a buzzer rings. Apparently that bar at the entrance is where the food is served to us. We go downstairs and get our food served to us on trays, which we carry...
