We booked for a group, but in the end there were a lot more people in our group than we booked for. The restaurant staff were fantastically accommodating, friendly, welcoming even given our crazy large group and the last minute changes.
The restaurant is warm and cozy, and the staff are very welcoming and make you feel at home.
The menu choice is limited - as it should be - as they pride themselves on fresh produce and ingredients, but every dish is well thought out and composed, with complimentary wine suggested. The fish of the day was fabulous and a generous portion, the accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious and balanced. Clearly a place that takes care to produce excellent dishes of good quality. A colleague of mine found the mussels of their seafood platter too salty but I guess everyone has different tastes. Overall a wonderful place to taste some excellent contemporary Swedish fish cuisine.
My only criticism was that the vegetarians in our group had a limited choice with only one vegetarian main on the menu.

Read moreSjöbaren has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Gothenburg, and a must-visit on every trip. While I used to frequent their Haga outlet, I had the chance to try the Lorensberg location this time—and it did not disappoint.
From the warm reception to the attentive service, everything about the experience was top-notch. One small but delightful touch I always look forward to is their complimentary bread with butter—simple, fresh, and delicious.
Of course, the highlight for me is always Sjöbaren’s fish au gratin. It’s not only visually appealing but also packed with incredible flavor—easily one of the best I’ve had.
If you’re a seafood lover visiting Gothenburg, I highly recommend Sjöbaren. It continues to live up to its reputation and keeps me coming back for more.

Read moreWe had a wonderful experience at Sjöbaren Lorensberg. The food was excellent, and the staff were very welcoming. My husband, who likes to cook, had some questions about the fish and the seasoning on his catch of the day dinner, which was outstanding. The man assisting us took time to talk about the food and answer my husband's questions. I had the herring starter and the fish soup which were both excellent. The passionfruit ice cream with the creme brûlée dessert was fabulous, too. The atmosphere was delightful and friendly. I rarely post reviews, but our experience here was so positive and so delightful that I wanted to recognize both the quality of the food and the quality...
