Thörnströms Privata Rum — Restaurant in Göteborgs Stad

We were lucky to get a last-minute booking at their Friday afternoon Julbord shortly after landing in Gothenburg for a weekend visit. It was the best welcome to Gothenburg we could have wished for.

The staff were friendly, welcoming and all very knowledgeable. We even had the privilege to chat briefly with owners Håkan and Anne Thörnström. They are such genuine and welcoming people.

Their staff was excellent and helped us newbies navigate our way around each section of the julbord feast.

Everything...and we do not exaggerate here...everything was full of flavour. Ingredients were fresh, showcasing their philosophy of sourcing local produce for their menu.

We don't speak Swedish and couldn't read most of the names of the items on the menu. However, good food is its own language. The julbord at Thörnströms Privata Rum spoke...

I was here with my company for a meeting. We had lunch and snacks prepared by the restaurant that were excellent. I am not a huge fish fan, but the fish they served was exquisite. After that the company meeting proceeded in their meeting room. During the breaks, we were offered shrimp sandwiches, coffee and snacks that were all quite good. After that, our meetings were done, and we started getting ready for a cooking lesson. They give you all the ingredients and an experienced chef to guide you, and you have to cook for your own group. Beställde deras hämtmat för tillagning hemma och blev otroligt besviken. Strul från första början med beställningen där deras meny inte var uppdaterad och sedan behövdes ett flertal korrigeringar innan det blev rätt. Förrätten var ok. Varmrätt med överkokt fisk som inte blev bättre av att värmas, medioker puré men såsen var god. Trist och smaklös dessert där smulorna förmodligen var gjorda på köpta kakor från ICA. Det medskickade brödet var nog från samma tillverkare. Vi har köpt liknande upplägg av hämtmat från andra stjärnkrogar i staden och alltid blivit knockade av fantastiska rätter men det här var som att få mat på en vanlig lunchrestaurang men till sex gånger...
