Hemköp — Local services in Göteborgs Stad

Hemköp (at Norstan Centre Gothenburg) is exactly the grocery store that we (and likely most other travellers) are delighted to find. It is quite large for a CBD grocery store with much better variety. Note that Hemköp's main store is down the escalator; the area at entry is just a small convenience store area. We visited this store twice.

Hemköp Norstan has a great selection of deli and other take-away foods, ranging from self-serve mixed meals to packaged salads, subs, and wraps -- far superior to the offerings at other stores at Norstan or the Gothenburg C train station!. I've attached photos of that deli area, which is only a small section of the entire store. Hemköp also has a full selection of meats, fish, breads, soft drinks, snacks, and most other foods. The prices of items we bought were very competitive.

Staff were great at helping us (e.g. which type of bananas we bought, how payment process works, etc.). The self-checkout screen has an English option. Also, you tap your credit card before scanning your items, and of course use your receipt to exit the gates.

By comparison, we walked out of the nearby "L" grocery store the previous day because it had very limited product range and a cramped store space. So glad we...

I can't believe discrimination can exist in a large grocery store, inside a mall in a modern European country. When I couldn't understand her Swedish and asked, very nicely, if she would speak in English "please", the female cashier (dark hair, dark eyes, does not even look originally Swedish herself) was extremely rude to me and basically started impatiently throwing the groceries while huffing and puffing. Then after charging my card asked to see my ID and debit card and started comparing them, I asked her what is this for? She basically yelled " for Control", then threw them back to me in a very disgusting manner. Please note that I was in line behind many Swedish people whom she did not ask to present their cards or IDs because they spoke Swedish, and behind me were many Swedish people whom she also did NOT ask to present their IDs and bank cards. It is absolutely disgusting to be discriminatory period, but furthermore to discriminate against someone because they decided not to learn an entire language because they will be visiting the country for 3 days only, especially When all people in that country speak...

Igår träffade jag två st från personalen som var okunniga. Fick gå till kassan 3 gånger bara för att kunna ansluta mitt bankkort till medlemskap.

Första gången pratade jag med en ung kille som stod vid självskanningen för att be om hjälp med det. Han säger åt mig att gå prata med en av dem som jobbar vid kassan.

Jag ställer mig i kö och när det är min tur har kassörskan jag pratar med inte heller koll då hon verkar ny. Hon pratar med en kollega som förklarar för henne hur man gör. Hon hjälper mig sen, men efter jag lämnar kassan ser jag i appen att mitt kort fortfarande inte är anslutet. Jag ställer mig i kö till samma kassa igen och när det är min tur förklarar jag för kassörskan att mitt kort fortfarande inte är anslutet. Hon fattar fortfarande inte och verkar till och med bli besvärad, så hon pratar med samma kollega som hjälpte henne tidigare. Den kollegan verkar också bli irriterad och hjälper mig snabbt med det. Sen säger hon (kollegan) till mig att jag kunde ha bett dem vid självskanningen hjälpa mig med det. Jag svarar att det var de vid självskanningen som sa åt mig att komma hit till en av kassorna istället.

Tidigare har jag varit även haft problem med att butiken sålt varor med kort datum som haft fel prislapp (fick betala högre än ordinariepriset fastän det skulle vara 30% billigare) och de sålde även skinkost som redan hade gått ut fem månader sen!

Dock har butiken bra utbud på mat och jag har även träffat på andra i personalen som varit hjälpsamma. Därför får den 2/5 istället för 1/5.
