Great food, disappointing service We recently had dinner at Spago, an Italian restaurant in Slussen, and I have to say that the food was absolutely excellent. Every dish we tried was rich in flavor and clearly prepared with care. We ordered the Spago truffle spaghetti, the prawn risotto, and the tomato pasta, and all three exceeded expectations. The truffle spaghetti, in particular, was beautifully creamy with just the right amount of truffle aroma, a perfect balance of indulgence without being overpowering. The risotto was cooked to perfection, creamy yet firm, and the prawns were fresh and flavorful. Even the simpler tomato pasta had that authentic, homemade taste that makes you appreciate Italian cuisine at its best.
However, what could have been a perfect dining experience was unfortunately overshadowed by the service. The staff felt distant and somewhat unwelcoming from the moment we arrived. They seemed uninterested, barely smiled, and gave off a cold, almost irritated attitude throughout the evening. While we didn’t expect over-the-top friendliness, a bit of warmth or hospitality would have gone a long way. It’s a shame, because the quality of the food truly deserves better representation on the service side.
In short, Spago in Slussen delivers top-tier Italian food in terms of taste and presentation, but the atmosphere suffers from an unfriendly service experience. If you’re going for the food alone, it’s definitely worth a visit, just don’t expect much in terms of hospitality or engagement...
Read moreYou need to make a reservation, don't walk-in or you'll be sent away, very politely, like the two parties who were standing ahead of us in the queue. The restaurant was full.
The restaurant is pretty large, they have outdoor seating and lots of rooms indoors with tables. Since it was just the two of us, they sat us at a small table for two in a place that can be described as a small corridor between rooms/spaces with tables. They could've treated us better and given us the better table as one was available for two people. This was the only downside to our experience at Spago. The menu's in Swedish, but the wait staff's happy to translate everything for you if needed, but since the names of dishes are in Italian, we didn't have much of a problem.
The food's delicious, portions are huge, the service was good and the drinks were tasty. We ordered, Buratta Salad - Unlike most restaurants, it wasn't all about the Buratta which you can see in the picture Rhubarb Streisand - Vodka based cocktail Pomo Piccante - This cocktail was very good, but couldn't sense the piccante Roma Pizza Polpette Di Vitello - Spaghetti & Meatballs, when in Sweden... This restaurant is right opposite our loft so we're...
Read moreI like the taste of the food here. I've been here several times now, and what I don't like is the portion sizes and how popular this place is, so it can be a bit loud (not a big issue really, but it can be hard to hear if you have a friend with ya). They've also seemed to made their portions smaller during the period of 2021-2023. Can't prove but my feeling when looking back and my "fullness" after a meal have changed.
I'd summarize the food to be "Small but really tasty". Food 3.75/5
The service is a bit hectic, but they do attend you by asking how the food is and come up quite fast when you've been seated a little while. They've been quite easy to get attention so a big plus in my opinion aswell. 4/5 on service
Atmosphere and premise, a bit loud sometimes, but the seating are ok in comfort too. There are some stairs and corners that are a bit "invisible" and would result in a lot of hurt, they do warn you about them but it's still there. 3/5 on atmosphere...
