Had an exceptional dining experience at Stockholms Gästabud that showcased the best of Swedish cuisine with a modern twist. The star of the evening was their pork cheek braised in red wine sauce, served with truffle mashed potatoes. The meat was incredibly tender, falling apart at the touch of a fork, while the rich wine sauce complemented it perfectly. The truffle mashed potatoes were creamy and indulgent, with just the right hint of earthiness.
The classic Swedish meatballs were expertly prepared - beautifully seasoned and served with traditional accompaniments of smooth mashed potatoes and tart lingonberries. It's clear why this dish is a menu staple. The mushroom dip with crackers made for an excellent starter, offering a savory depth that wasn't overwhelming.
The butter fried salmon deserves special mention - the kitchen achieved that coveted contrast between a perfectly crispy exterior and a moist, flaky interior. The fresh quality of the fish really shone through in this simple but expertly executed preparation.
We finished with their Panna Cotta for dessert, which provided an elegant end to the meal.
The attention to detail in every dish demonstrated the kitchen's commitment to both traditional flavors and precise technique. From the tender, slow-cooked meats to the perfectly executed sides, each plate showed thoughtful preparation and skillful cooking.
Highly recommend for anyone seeking an authentic Swedish dining experience with refined execution. Perfect for both special occasions and when you're craving elevated...
Read moreWorth every recommendation and a wait! The restaurant only has about 10 tables and does not take reservations. It seems there was an early rush each day as we must have all read the same reviews! First day we arrived at 4pm with very little wait but there was a wait when we left. The second day (yes, it was that good we returned the next day) there was more of a wait as we arrived at around 4:20pm. But when we were done eating around 5:30pm there was a lull with no line. Oddly other reviews recommended the Swedish meatballs and Swedish sausage (there really was only 1 medium sized link) but our favorites were the butter fried salmon (fresh huge tasty filet cooked perfectly) and Swedish rib eye. The slow cooked pork cheek in a heavy sauce was okay. The mixed fish and seafood soup was a stand out – it was amazing in a flavorful broth and full of lots of fresh fish and seafood – perfect on a rainy day. It was listed an entrée but we shared it as an appetizer. The 3 kinds of pickled herring appetizer was also worth a try – it was not fishy tasting at all. Would have liked to try the reindeer appetizer but we ran out of time and room in our bellies. We ordered an extra side of the thyme roasted potatoes. The staff were friendly and we really enjoyed our food experience! I would highly recommend eating here but order the fish soup and salmon or steak (skip...
Read moreI’m pretty sure this place is creating fake reviews. No way 3,000 people have given this 4.7 stars. The waiter (guy with thick glasses and a pony tail) was rude to everyone, didn’t smile once and never asked us how the food was…and made fun of me for ordering the steak. The chef isn’t Swedish but that would be forgivable if the food wasn’t so atrocious. I asked for medium rare steak, it was well done and dry. The pork cheeks were dry and the wine in the sauce wasn’t cooked down so it tasted bitter and sour at the same time. The wine was kept at around 30 degrees and served warm. One wine glass was huge and the other was tiny for some reason as well. Plus they say it’s the gran reserva on the menu but pour the much cheaper reserva. There were two separate speakers playing different music and the ambiance was appalling. We left the food on the plate. Nobody asked us how it was and had us pay and leave without saying anything (not “thanks for coming”, “have a nice evening”… nothing). This menu sounds good and the pork cheek actually looks good, but it’s not. After having amazing food in Malmo and other places in Scandinavia, and living in Europe for the past few years, I’d have to say this is one of those tourist traps that you should avoid if you want a good dining experience. Honestly one of the worst experiences we’ve...
