Wanted to make sure I rushed to write this review as the evening was so special, I didn’t want to forget anything.
Had a lovely dinner at La Ruelle tonight with my Dad, which is more meaningful than I have words for. We had spent the day driving through the countryside, to Ockelbo where he grew up, visiting the places of his childhood including the graves of my grandparents and his grandmother, my namesake, all of whom I had never gotten to meet. It was, to say the least, a very special day that was made even more meaningful by our time at La Ruelle.
Everything we ordered was exceptional — my Dad who loves oysters, was so happy to see them on the menu and delighted by their freshness and flavor. The chicken liver pate with pickles was — and I’m not exaggerating in the slightest — the best I’ve had, even considering my time living in the south of France. The lamb shoulder was cooked to perfection; every flavor of every dish thoughtful and considered, yet simple and wise. We capped off the evening with summer strawberries in local whole cream and I can only call it heavenly.
Somehow this whole magical day was made even more so by our time at La Ruelle. The ambiance, the service, the food, all made this little gem in Uppsala, one of the few moments in my life with my Dad that I will treasure always. I can only hope the experience of others is as magical as ours — of this I have little doubt! Thank you to all.
PS. The chef was also especially handsome which didn’t...
Read moreWe celebrated our wedding anniversary at La Ruelle, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and taken care of. The atmosphere is warm, intimate, and perfect for a special evening, yet still relaxed enough that you immediately feel comfortable.
The food was fantastic—every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. While the menu isn’t extremely long, it’s clear that every option has been carefully curated, and you can’t go wrong with anything you order. We loved how each plate was presented with attention to detail, and it all tasted as good as it looked.
One of the real highlights was the staff. They weren’t just friendly and attentive; they were also incredibly knowledgeable about wine. They took the time to ask what we liked and then suggested different pairing options to match our food perfectly. It felt like they genuinely cared about creating the best experience for us, rather than just going through the motions.
The drinks were excellent, the service was spot-on, and the overall experience made the evening truly memorable. It’s the kind of place where you can tell they take pride in what they do—both in the kitchen and on the floor.
All in all, La Ruelle exceeded our expectations and gave us a wonderful anniversary celebration. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place with outstanding food, great wine, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be...
Read moreIt’s a nice small restaurant, the food was really good and tasty. We went for a later dinner and the place can be a bit loud (I guess we were unlucky with a loud big table).
What I can’t forgive is that there was a plum seed inside my chocolate mousse and it almost broke my tooth, I’m glad I didn’t bite too hard… the server was apologetic but the kitchen never even apologized for it, and that kinda ruined the evening for me. What a bad surprise at the end of what was going to be an excellent meal.
So for the slow and inattentive service and for almost costing me a tooth repair I feel obligated into removing two stars from my review. If you’re brave you can have some really excellent dishes, but it will take me a while to go back there again....
