First and foremost, walking into the restaurant there were 6 people crowded around the front door smoking. Ya, I know it’s a huge problem in Switzerland. I live here and still can’t believe people don’t realize smoking kills you and those around you, pretty dumb…but a business doing nothing to push people a couple of meters from your entrance with a sign or recommendation sets a poor entry impression for patrons that don’t smoke. I almost didn’t walk in. Upon walking in, we were not greeted to be seated for several minutes, left wondering if we needed to do more. Our server was very personable and accepted that we had some food intolerances and said he would note this to the kitchen. The caesar salad, for 17 francs was very small, maybe 25 g of bacon and a few grams of parmesean. There was not much flavour, needed more lemon and anchovie, in my opinion, but the romaine was fresh and crispy, just wish there were a few more leaves to crunch on. Wish they brought us a salt and pepper grinder and had to reach to the next table over, service could have been a little more thorough. The biggest problem I had was that although I declared that I am diabetic and cannot eat any sugar (I am very strict low carb), my bison steak arrived on a plate with a sweet jus all around it and on parts of it. The eventual solution was to exchange the plate only, which I accepted because we had waited near 30 minutes for the steak in the first place then it took about 5 minutes for us to get a server’s attention to address the matter and then another 6-7 minutes to exchange the plate, meanwhile, my son was eating his filet (ordered medium, delivered rare). By the time my steak arrived back, my bernaise was cold and thickened and my green beans were also cold. At first, I let this all go because I didn’t want to cause a scene because I was having a nice one-on-one time with my son, but now, the next day I am much more annoyed and considering returning to complain more emphatically in person. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the experience and the quality, given the high prices. We physically went to the restaurant at around 17:50 to reserve a table, a gentleman pointed to a large table on the terrasse and asked if we would like that. We said enthusiastically 'yes, please' and asked if we could come back at 19:00. He answered 'Of course you can! I will keep it for you'. We went back at 18:55 -- and guess what? No more table! Another couple was being served. When we told him we were surprised/disappointed, he said 'There was nothing I could do'. No sincere apology and frankly, I don't think he cared much. He offered us a teensy little café table instead, that could maybe fit only cocktail drinks. So we went inside to eat instead, which was more spacious but not our preference given COVID19. Inside, the waitress was super nice. But despite her pleasant disposition, it just didn't make up for the meat which was sort of tasteless, somewhat sinewy and overall not that buttery tender. For a restaurant called 'Beef', and specializing in beef, it was really surprising and very disappointing. We have had much more excellent quality beef in many other restaurants or brasseries in Switzerland, that don't even specialise in meat. And frankly, for 44 CHF to 48 CHF for 200 grams of beef singularly alone on a white plate -- with no frites, side vegetables or even a salade without paying extra... c'est quand meme exageré, meme pour la Suisse. Read moreThe service was great but unfortunately the meal wasn't on par. I've eaten in diverse steakhouses, some get their meat right and the condiments, this one sadly doesn't. Their attempts and efforts are all nice but they don't achieve the excellence they promise. Almost everything was overly salty, but not with pure salt but this weird saltiness, nothing was balanced well.
Also the ambiente in the restaurant could be better, badly lit, kinda windy/cold.
I'm having some bowel issues after this meal and am not feeling well. I've also asked whether a specific condiment I'm sensitive to has been used and they denied it, but I am having a headache right now and it's definitely been used... else I wouldn't be reacting but sadly the chef doesn't seem to know what he's talking about and this condiment shouldn't be used in high quality restaurants. I know I should ask, but it's never been a problem before in other high tier restaurants so I was caught by surprise.
I recommend you find another chef to improve your dishes, otherwise it's too sad so much potential is being wasted.
