When we first arrived we were told they were full and don't keep a wait list on Sundays. She said we could wait if we want or go try a similar restaurant down the street. Luckily we decided to stick around and a few minutes later she told us that a table was about to become available.
We both had the Birdie Brekke which was avocado toast with smoked salmon and a poached egg, green salad, gruyere cheese, bread, and a dessert pot which tasted like a banana yogurt drink with mint. It was more than either of us could finish, so we didn't wind up eating the salad. The rest was delicious. My husband had a cappuccino and I was excited to see they had good cold brew coffee.
There are two parts to the restaurant, with the kitchen on one side, so the servers have to go back and forth a lot. Service is definitely slow, but that is typical of many restaurants in Europe. They don't allow laptops on weekends and only when it's slow during the week, so don't expect to hang out with just a coffee and get work done. There is a minimum of 6chf to pay with card, but my cold brew was already 6.50 so that's not hard to meet. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere are great. We were happy that we managed...
Read moreCute cafe with really nice vibe. I came here with a couple friends on two separate occasions. Once for lunch and the other for a coffee break. There are seats against the window and a few two top (possibly three top) tables inside.
On my lunch date, I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich (came with a salad and was about 16 francs) and a flat white coffee (5.50 francs). The sandwich could use more ham but was warm and toasty so still good. Also I liked the pairing with the salad. It created a good balance on the plate. My friend ordered the yogurt bowl which came out so beautifully presented with honey, granola, and fruit.
On the coffee break I ordered a ginger iced tea and the lemon/speculoos cheesecake. The cheesecake was super creamy and really good!
Both times, the cafe has a very comfortable vibe and it makes it easy to stay there for a while. Also bathroom available!
Expected prices for Switzerland and located near other museum/sights....
Read moreYou have to try Birdie if you like coffee, especially if you’re a specialty coffee enthusiast !
☕️: The coffee is really good and they also do pour overs, chemex and aero press ...
🍽: You can go there for breakfast, lunch or an afternoon break. The portions are big and the price very reasonable ( only 9.- for the granola bowl!)
🛋: The atmosphere is cozy and well light. An independent coffee shop vibe.
👥: The staff is super friendly, I often asked the baristas about coffee recommendations and methods and we chat a bit.
👉 My tips: They have a policy against computers the week ends but it’s more relaxed during the week. Try the seats at the window it’s more comfortable.
The BEST thing about birdie is the outdoor stools ! Coffee + sun is absolutely terrific ! It makes me choose this specific coffee shop and not others for the outdoor seats...
