This was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant in all my years on this earth, across any countries that I’ve been to. I was so in shock at the events that I didn’t even realize to take photos and document this. Luckily I remembered to do so for the flies that joined us for dinner.
Among a laundry list of complaints about this restaurant, the worst experience was the staff. I ordered a veal. My first cut into the meat was disappointing not because of the meat itself, but because there was so much sinew my knife couldn’t even cut through. Even worse, there was a blood vessel inside one of the corner parts of the meat that dripped some blood. The rest of the meat was also overcooked (I know it sounds weird: bloody vessels in overcooked meat. I don't know how they managed to make that happened). Needless to say, this veal was disappointing. Without taking a bite, I asked the waiter if I could replace it with another piece.
His response to my complaint about the overcooked meat was “this is what veal is” as if it is my first time ever having veal. His response to the blood was “yes that’s an animal” as if I was an uneducated child. I am quite shy and any type of public confrontation creates a lot of anxiety for me, so I just said “fine” to let it be. My wife saw the look of disappointment on my face so she encouraged me to replace it with a salmon instead.
So i asked the waiter if I could replace the veal with salmon. He brought out the same monologue and pressured me to stay with this terrible veal. I stood my ground and requested the salmon. Finally he took it back with a clear agitation. It made me very uncomfortable and my anxiety was building up so I lost my appetite. We didn’t finish our food and asked for the check. I didn’t take a single bite out of the veal, and my wife took one bite to confirm it was very overcooked.
The waiter came back and told me he charged me for the veal because they already put the salmon on the grill. I told him this was a very sad experience and I wish it didnt have to escalate, and instead just see that I had a problem and helped me. The waiter’s response was “sorry you feel that way.”
Other things like the flies also really bothered me but I tried not to make a big deal out of it. I was very surprised that the waiter saw the flies landing on my food but didn’t say or do...
Read moreWe were two families each with a kid of 1 and 3 years old, plus 1 grand parents. We went for dinner, but one family was early. So the early family ordered the food earlier. Then the second family with the grand parents arrived and placed their order up to 20 minutes behind the first order. After another 20 minutes of no food arriving yet (the restaurant was not fully booked by the way), we asked about the food delivery of the first family’s order. Apparently, the order was taken all together as one group, not separating and placing the first family order early (which was clearly communicated as our wish). So we asked again to separate the orders so that the first family with the hungry 3-year old can get their dinner asap. Another 10 minutes passed. When asking again, they said it will arrive now as next and all together, even though we asked to prioritise. Finally the pasta for the 3-year old arrived after another 5 minutes (and all the rest of the orders another 5-10 minutes later. For the kids pasta, the restaurant manager warned that the plate (for the 3-year old sic!) is very hot and should never been touched (do they know that it’s hard to control a 3-year old and they better just bring a non-heated plate for all kids menus?!). Other than that, the service was very lazy: the empty amuse bouche cups remained for 30 minutes on our table, bread have not been refilled during the 55 minutes of waiting time, just to name this. The food was of good quality once it arrived and the restaurant manager apologised. Both these facts make 1 star each, that’s why my review ends up...
Read moreThe dinner at BG's Grill was a very pleasant experience. They offered a set menu with option of number 3,4,5 and 6, as well as a'la carte. We opted for set menu as it looked very interesting (modern takes on Swiss dishes and ingredients), and there was a vegetarian set menu option which is what I usually go for, although I am not a vegetarian. The dishes were very tasty and presented in a very attractive way. The waiters had a very good knowledge of what they served and provided us with good description of the dishes without imposing on our privacy. There was not too many complementary dishes that came between the courses so we not too full after eating our 4 chosen dishes. The ambience and the decor of the restaurant was modern but at the same time very cosy. We would definitely come there again if we return to Grinewald.
The only thing which dampened our experience was that when we came to the restaurant we were sited at the table that we didn't like. We asked to be sited at another table but were told it is reserved for someone else, while at the time of the booking we were not informed that we can choose a specific table, as we would definitely not chose the one we were sited at. Later while the people for whom the table was (apparently) reserved came they actually asked for another table which was given to them. Don't get me wrong, I don't alway get the table I want at every restaurant, but the manner in which it is done is usually much less abrupt and...
