I visited Barrel Oak Irish Pub, Montreux on 12th October 2025. The food was excellent — dishes like grilled salmon, paneer tikka, and quesadilla were delicious — and the ambience was very good.
However, the service experience was extremely disappointing. I specifically asked for hot water, but the waiter brought hot water with tea bags and charged CHF 4 each, as if I had ordered tea. When I clarified that I had only asked for hot water, I was told they don’t serve plain hot water.
Later, the service manager Mr. Amit Chaudhary argued rudely, insisting that I pay for tea I never ordered. I said I was fine paying for hot water if it’s chargeable, but not for something I didn’t request. Instead of handling it professionally, he showed an arrogant and disrespectful attitude.
When I mentioned I would share my experience in a review, he mocked me and said he doesn’t care and can get any review deleted within minutes. That statement alone shows a shocking lack of customer respect and accountability.
I paid the full bill for everything I consumed, but this rude behaviour and poor service completely overshadowed the good food. Management should take this seriously — arrogance and threats to “delete reviews” are unacceptable in...
Read moreThe Barrel Oak serves up delicious, authentic Irish food with an incredible view of Lake Geneva. The Irish Stew was one of the best I’ve ever had (including in Dublin)! It was rich and flavorful with chunks of tender and moist lamb and accompanied by warm bread rolls. At my request, Francis cheerfully brought me butter to slather on them. The chili fries were fried to perfection and had just the right amount of red chili flakes to give them an extra pop of flavor. The all-day breakfast was generous and hearty. The classic burger came with Gruyère cheese and mushrooms and delicious fries. Dessert did not disappoint - we had the warm apple tart with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle and the waffle with ice cream.
Google Maps gave us confusing directions and we unnecessarily lugged our luggage down to the street below and back up. If you are coming from the train station, just turn left and the restaurant is along the street on your right. The front of the restaurant does not prepare you for the beautiful glass-lined dining area affording gorgeous views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
The service was fantastic; Francis was particularly helpful and friendly and patiently explained over the phone how to find...
Read moreOn 19th April 2025 me and my friend went there for eating. We ordered a lamb burger and a lamb stew. When I was paying the bill the waiter didn’t even want to show me the bill until I asked. After paying when I checked the bill again I noticed there were some extra added to the burger my friend ordered (egg, cheese and bacon) I asked him has he ordered any extra he said he can’t remember. So we went back and the waiter explained that he asked my friend “do you want egg, cheese and bacon on your burger” and my friend said “yes”. He said it really fast almost like intentionally, and with his Indian accent I totally understand why my friend didn’t really get what he said. And when he was explaining, he kept repeating “of course you have to pay if you ordered extra””of course you have to pay”…….Also I ordered tap water and he brought bottled water and already opened it and poured in the glass before taking to the table. By the way, this is called an Irish bar but no Irish workers at all. All the workers I saw were Indians or Somalis. Just...
