One of the worst experiences ever! We booked this hotel on Booking com for three nights during Montreux Jazz Festival many months in advance. Few days before our arrival, I asked about the private garage, as one of the highlights advertised on Booking com is "parking garage". David, the manager was extremely rude from the beginning of our conversation stating that I did not read carefully and that I should cancel a reservation if I don't like it. I stated that if it says on many places "parking garage", then it seems like they have a garage but I stopped responding to his arrogant email and then he actually cancelled our reservation just one night before our arrival. I have over 100 accommodations booked on Booking com (from 2 starts to 5 stars) and never did anyone cancel my booking, let alone because I asked about a feature which is clearly advertised on their Booking listing and on the night before, when David obviously knows that it will be impossible and really expensive for us to find another accommodation. Also, to be honest, the place looks quite run down in person, now that we went to Montreux and passed by it. I would absolutely avoid this place...
Read moreThis was the second time I have stayed in Montruex, for the Jazz Festival, and decided to get a more centrally located hotel. Well the Splendid is certainly that. You only have to cross the road and you are at the lake and all of the stalls (during the Jazz Festival). There are two underground car parks on the main road about 200yards either side of the Hotel. They charge about 15-20chfs per day. The hotel itself may not be as plush as some others but it was fine for me. The staff were very helpful and polite. The room was a good size, had a TV, twin beds (which were remote adjustable), good shower, and a balcony area with closet space. There is no AC but I left the bay wondows open all the time and it was nice and cool. My room was opposite the reception (27).on the 1st floor. You can see the room on the pohot's of the Hotel. Three of them in the middle with the white frontage. Rooms above have the metal railings on the balconies. I'd go for the sea view rooms as I suspect the rear of the hotel doesn't seem as good. The is a limited choice for breakfast but with so many options a short distance from the hotel it was fine. I will definately go...
Read moreOur family of 3 decided on a 3-star hotel for 2 nights in Montreux to lower our overall travelling cost in Switzerland and this hotel turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Building has 100-year-old architecture, hallway shows sign of age, even the antique standing clock... all are interesting to look at and to feel nostalgic for those good old days in my hometown Dalat, Vietnam, a French colonial town with remnants of similar old architecture. Best of all, we were greeted and checked in by a warm and cheerful Mr David, a Swiss with Italian root in his 50s as he said, with so many life stories to tell and so much ease for us to make connection with. He surprisingly turned out to also be our chef for some excellent omelette during breakfast the next mornings and to my 5-year-old, he is a funny witty man. This is a bonus experience of the people to our trip beside what we came here for, the Alps, the vineyards... Direct as the Swiss might be but also helpful, authentic, unpretentious and heartwarming. We booked a 3 bedded room on the other side of the building, not facing the promenade, and it was all quiet, no difficulty...
