Le Metropole Restaurant & Bar à Cocktails — Restaurant in Montreux

I had the worst experience of my life in a restaurant because of the staff. I was with a work colleague and we just wanted a drink because the weather was so hot and it was 11am. As we sat down, the waitress just threw the menus at the table. When she came back and we ordered 2 cokes she said “this is a place to eat and not drink” so as I responded to her “I know it sells food, but we’ll just have a drink and leave”. Note we were the only customers in the restaurant at that point (until the moment we left only customers for 1 other table arrived). She laughed at me and said “so you know and still will order a drink, ok good to know” and left. I was horrified on how rude she was. She was not saying these things nicely, she was plain direct and rude. When she brought us our drinks she said “when the customers start arriving you’ll need to leave”. So we said to her we wouldn’t be there long. We just drank our super overpriced coke and we asked for the bill. She again threw the bill on the table with a card machine for the full amount and pointed at my work colleague, she didn’t ask if we were splitting the bill and we couldn’t even ask for a receipt as the moment my colleague put his phone for contactless payment and paid, she turned around and left. I was shocked and horrified with this experience. I don’t want to fully blame the restaurant because the other waiter seemed to be nice as we were leaving he was smiling and saying “thank you for coming, have a nice day”. But the waitress that served us was the rudest waitress I’ve ever seen in my life. I felt like I was being kicked out of the restaurant for no reason and felt uncomfortable and disrespected. For this reason, I would never consider going back to this place. Such a shame because the restaurant has a really nice view. But if the staff is rude there’s no point in going. I don’t know the name of the waitress, but to put a time on this review we went on the Saturday 14th...

Greeting We were greeted by waiters seating us at the table inside, with no option of going upstairs (where thw view is nice). All the tables on the terrace were taken. Our mistake, we have not made a reservation.

Order placing While trying to place our order, the waiter was interrupting me constantly, in order to respond to his colleague who passed by and complained about some sort of an issue they were having. I had to repeat my order twice and was left unsure if the waiter even got it.

Fondue We had a classic fondue, which was of average quality. It was not spiced at all and the portion was notnas big as seen in other places. Considering how light the fobdue was (well, considering how light a fondue can be), I am doubting the cheese combination was the right one. My comparison is the fondue we previously had in Caveau des Vignerons, where it was absolutely perfect.

Atmosphere The atmosphere was, for me, horrible. Being on vacation, you do not expect to get a dinner where you feel like you need to finish as fast as possible. The waiters are running around, when they oass by they ask if everything is OK, but are already at the next table by the time you reply. The interior design is tacky (christmas lights, table setting, general impression of how everything is put together) and has nothing to do with the area nor is following some sort of a topic. Again, my comparison would be other places we have visited,such as Les Boucaniers (pirate theme, Swiss pub, relaxed atmosphere) and Caveau des Vignerons (proper Swiss interoor design and atmosphere, very friendly staff).

Bottom line is, if you have an alternative, I recommend you go for it instead of spending your money and time at...

The location and the view from its terrace is stunning. Very close to the port so you’ll see beautiful ships 🚢 and boats around. Staff are very friendly and kind . Food was amazing! Also the coffee was great! I tried their Calezone and asked for a vegetarian version which they kindly accepted to do it. The combination of Italian parmegano and tomato sauce with the Swiss cheese was something else 😋😋one of the best I have ever tried. I would definitely go back there if I go to Montreaux.
