il Brigante — Restaurant in St. Gallen

The restaurant was recommended to us from another Italian restaurant, and we were so happy to have our last dinner in the city with il Brigante! The owner - Tony, was very warm and welcoming to our family of 2 kids. Food was soulfully Italian, and we find the price reasonable for such authentic dishes! Having done a mini walking trail, we were looking to refuel. We ordered a carbonara, marinara pizza, el porcini risotti, soup of the day. The carbonara was just nice in flavour and taste, not too heavy on bacon nor cheese. Pizza dough was nicely crisp. The chilli oil that was served together with the pizza was a spicy kick! My fave would have to be the risotti, the umami with the mushroom yum yum!! Again, not overpowered with cheese. Soup of the day was Italian dumpling soup. What a memorable meal in this beautifully historical city. Would recommend il Brigante...

Schade... Die Gamberetti waren gegart und nicht in Olivenöl angebraten. Die Pizza war gut, auch wenn der Tomatenfond nach Pelati mit Tomatenmark geschmeckt hat und die Pizza lauwarm war. Meine Cassata war mit Kakaopulver überdeckt und der Schlagrahm war eindeutig, und vom Personal zugegeben, aus der Spraydose. Auch sind die Spaghetti Vongole von der Karte verschwunden. Alles sehr schade. Bis vor ein paar Monaten war die Qualität viel besser. Und dabei alles zu einem recht gehobenen Preis. Für uns stimmt das Preis/Leistung Verhältnis nicht...

Ich war enttäuscht von der Pizza prosciutto, die ich erhalten habe. Teilweise war sie nur gerade von der Tomatensauce bedeckt. Innerhalb von St. Gallen ist auch der Preis für die Pizza mit 18.-- am oberen Ende. Das sehr schlichte Ambiente (keine Tischtücher sonder Papierunterlagen) kann dann eine missratene Pizza auch nicht aufwerten. Service aber nett und okay. Werde wieder mal hingehen und schauen ob ich die Bewertung...
