Was here a week before with a friend and we both had some truly excellent drinks, the service is very relaxed, which might have bothered some people that it takes some time to get served but I experienced it as an inviting collegial atmosphere. Their soundtrack is awesome.
It was my friends birthday tonight so as a last treat we went here for a drink, as everything we had before was a level above. We came in and ordered last rounds (it took 20 minutes to order as the only arrivals which didn’t bother me personally but others in my group described the service as slack and inattentive…
I ordered a Tommy’s margarita and was sure to repeat ‘Tommy’s’ when the server repeated just margarita (not a massive fan of the straight classic margarita and prefer the sweet-sourness of Tommy’s). So I get a drink that tastes slightly sour like pasteurised lemon juice and not much else, so sweetness to speak of and no tang from any tequila it may have had… so I took a second sip: the same. My friend tried it and also thought it was off, so I took it back to the bar and rather than say it was ‘wrong’ or ‘bad’ I simply said it wasn’t what I expected and when asked why, I said it didn’t have any of the sweet-sourness… this was countered with “we’ll just because it wasn’t what you expected…” and “let me check it wasn’t mixed incorrectly”, as though it was my fault for ordering a drink I just didn’t like, rather than rejecting a poor rendition.
Wasn’t a fan of being patronised and particular as time was getting on and it had already taken some time to get our last round, I decided to content myself with my beer, when asked if the barman could make me something else. I restated for the third time that I was just bringing the drink back. Obviously, if I had intended to just accept the drink, I wouldn’t have gone to the effort of going to the bar to return it. The bartender then split the drink with a friend at the bar.
So, I’m rather unpleasantly surprised that when we receive the bill, the unrecognisable Tommy’s margarita is listed. I remind the bartender that I returned the drink practically full, but am told that I was offered another drink. He then proceeds to patronise me again about not knowing what drink I ordered, when I mention for the first instance that I worked as a bartender (in a cocktail bar) and know what it’s supposed to be like. It was even ‘off’ or unbalanced, it did not recognise it as a Tommy’s. Im any case, after asking me to repeat the ingredients, to prove my opinion worthy of any esteem (apparently it wasn’t). You don’t have to be a sommelier to know a bottle of wine is corked… he said sorry for the mistake but that it was my fault I passed up another drink…
Yeah buddy, a mistake that you expected me to pay for. Had it not been my friend’s birthday, I would have told you where to go and certainly not paid. As it stands that’s money (and time I worked earning said money) that he and his friends enjoyed at my expense. What struck me most was the condescending manner. I know that service is a tough job from my own experience but snubbing customers who firmly and politely raise a complaint, is just bad service.
Real shame, the other drinks were outstanding and the atmosphere in bar is great, but such asshat behaviour really ruined this...
Read morePisco sour was pretty good. Like everything in Zürich, drinks here are certainly not cheap. It can get very busy here, so I'd come early if you want a seat. Staff speak English well.
I give it fewer stars because the staff, while polite, were a little discriminatory. They happily made small talk with some, but were very tight-lipped & inattentive (slow service) with other customers. They gave some customers free shots in view of others. I also watched the female bartender tell two young East Asian women that they could not sit at the table in front, only the one in back. Well, it's their bar, so they can do as they please - but I found this discrepancy in treatment of clients to be...
Read moreI came here with 3 girlfriends and we enjoyed our time here. I like the vibe and ambiance. It’s a cute little bar with friendly service and nice cocktails with prices that I would say are on par with Zurich standards maybe even a little cheaper. My favourite drink here had to be the Pablo which I recommend if you like tequila and spicy, it had a nice little kick to it. I tried almost all the tequila cocktails and you can’t go wrong with any of them. Definitely will be back to try out...
