I had one of the worst dining experiences ever at Restaurant Le Dézaley. I won’t even comment on the food, since everyone’s tastes varies, but the service was shockingly bad. ABYSMAL actually. I wish I can give the service ZERO STAR. We waited over 40 MINUTES for our order of a simple cheese fondue and a main dish. The kicker? A table of two who arrived 20 minutes after us got their food first – and the only difference? They ordered expensive wine and beer. We personally experienced the unethical service many have mentioned on google review: unless you order expensive items, you’re treated as second class.
When I politely addressed the wait time with our server, he was not only RUDE but CONDESCENDING. He raised his voice so much he was basically yelling and talking down at me. He kept insisting the delay was because the food was made fresh (as if that excused everything) and even made incredibly offensive comments like “I don’t know if you can understand me” and “I don’t know what you do in your country but in my country this is how we do things.” Completely unacceptable behavior.
And to top it all off, they charged us 8 CHF for tap water. Yes, you read that right – TAP water. We actually specifically asked for tap instead of still and sparkling water because I saw reviews on line for them charging water but they somehow still managed to charge for tap water that’s readily available everywhere in the city??? This was so unethical and felt like outright robbery!!
Our bill for two items and tap water came to nearly 90 CHF, which is outrageous for the poor treatment we received. To any tourist thinking about visiting, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. Zurich has plenty of fondue spots, and if you’re going to pay for an overpriced tourist meal anyways, you should at least be treated...
Read moreFortunate enough to visit Zurich every couples years in that past 10 years. So at least 4-5 times in the past 10 years. It is a bit touristic yes, probably 80% are tourist eating there, but there are a lot of Tourist in Zurich. How genuine, I don't know but Ive always enjoyed my time there. They used to have staff like your mom who you might have thought worked there for all their lives but recently after COVID, I've visited and they have a lot of younger newer maybe part-time staff. The place seems to have gotten an upgrade too. I might have thought they have changed owners or management. The vibe is a bit different. The food still seems to be the same. The dining room gives you a bit of a swiss chalet feel which all tourist are looking for. In the summer, the terrace beside the church is great. The service will depend on who is serving you. The man serving me trying to recommend me the most expensive bottle of wine which is something that ruined my mood. I understand is difficult after COVID and when someone deliberately do that, and then reiterate that tips are not included when you pay, it's a bit pushy. But then work is hard. Everyone wants to make a living. I might think twice visiting again and might need to force to look for an alternative. But nonetheless, it is almost a landmark for swiss food and fondu in Zurich, for tourist which is...
Read moreNO CHILDREN FRIENDLY. We had an absolutely disgraceful experience. Of course we made a mistake with a reservation for 2 (there were no fields for comments where to say that we were bringing our 10-month-baby with us). Right after entering, they starting being unpolite with us, but finally offered a table for 3 - baby chair in one side, two bench seats at the opposite. Of course we couldn't have dinner like this, so kindly asked to turn the table o moving to the next one. Answer: "no, that table is for 3". The other table was even smaller, but they clearly didn't want us to stay and made everything they could to force us being uncomfortable. We finally started to leave the restaurant and they didn't even try to help or find a solution. Nobody said a word. They just opened the door to let us leave, without asking what happened, saying sorry or goodbye.
This was the most embarrassing situation I've ever lived, and no one seemed to care a bit about it, all the waiters were staring at us as if we were stupids. Of course they have to say "we are fully booked" to many people every single night that can do whatever they want, but at least they could try to be polite with the people that go to spend money there.
Good luck with your successful business and popularity, I hope you never have to look for new clients and can always treat them like...
