Old Gregory Pub — Restaurant in Zurich

Went here for the first time with some friends tonight. You can't see inside, so you don't know how full it is. We each had to pay 10 CHF to get into the karaoke bar.

Upon entering, it was really full—no free table for us to sit at, not even at the bar. We asked a group of people if we could join them at their table, and they said yes. But as we were about to sit down, the blonde waitress told us we couldn’t because the group that invited us had reserved the table.

So, we awkwardly stood around in the hallway, in the way of people who wanted to walk through, as there wasn’t any real space to stand either. Other people offered us a place at their table, but we were once again rudely turned away by the waitress.

Having had enough, we decided to leave and asked for our entrance fee back. After a few minutes of uncomfortable discussion with the lady at the door, we managed to get our money refunded.

Never coming here again. I've lived in Zurich my entire life and visited most of its karaoke bars. This has been, by far, the worst experience I’ve ever had.

I read some of the other comments. It seems like, in the past, some people didn’t order drinks and just sang. I understand how frustrating that must be for the staff, but the current entrance fee combined with such rudeness is definitely not...

Update 2024: An entrance fee of CHF10 is charged. Absolutely ridiculous, as if the price of having to listen to debilitated Swiss German songs that none cares for isn’t already high enough.

Und an alle, die den Eintritt, das Personal und die Konsumregelung hier kritisieren... LEUTE DAS WAREN FRÜHER HÖLLISCHE ZUSTÄNDE DA DRINN! Gäste kamen in Rudeln, wollten alle min. 2 Lieder singen und konsumierten (fast) nichts. Wie glaubt ihr wird eine Person (DJ) entlohnt, der selbst keine Einnahmen generiert? Früher wars da drinn so brechend voll, dass man sich kaum rühren, geschweige denn auf die Toilette gehen konnte. Mobiliar wurde sowohl "unabsichtlich" als auch mutwillig zerstört. Wer auf eine gepolsterte Bank steht, gehört vor die Tür. Wer an einen Tisch mit zentralem Stehfuss anlehnt und alle darauf stehenden Getränke verschüttet, gehört vor die Tür. Wer nur Wasser oder gar nichts trinken aber den ganzen Abend singen will, hat in einer Karaoke-BAR(!) nichts zu suchen und soll doch besser zu Hause in der Badewanne singen.

Nicht das Personal sondern das verzogene Kliente ist das Problem. Das Personal gibt sein Bestes, hat aber auch einiges an Erfahrung mit den Gästen an der Langstrasse hinter sich. Versucht also zu verstehen, warum manche Regeln heute so sind, wie sie sind.
