The coffee and food were ok, not amazing but no complaints. The staff were cold and seemed inconvenienced by the fact that I came in, directing me to sit in the back rather than the bar stools by the window. The seating is utilitarian, it would probably be a good place to work but if you want good coffee in a friendly, inviting atmosphere there are many better choices in the vicinity.
In response to the comment below: perhaps you could tell people about the shop rules when they come in (the rest of the menu has been translated to English but something which is clearly very important to staff has not been) or perhaps you could word your requests to turn off the phone more politely to avoid confrontation, but my above review is did not mention the phone because I found the shop unwelcoming even before I took a phone call and the staff attitude devolved from unwelcoming to rude and unpleasant.
I came to this cafe because previous reviewers mentioned it was comfortable with great staff, my experience was inconsistent with those reviews but very consistent with the unpleasant response posted to my review. As I said yesterday, there are much better places to have a much better cup of coffee a short walk from this one.
Of course I was agitated when I was trying to understand someone on the phone and the shop staff kept getting in my face to get off the phone, because I didn’t know that phones are not allowed in the shop. If the rule is so important, why is it not translated as the rest of the menu is? (The owners snarky comment about translating into every language is precisely the level of service to be expected at this place) Or maybe mention the rule when someone orders, the cafe is not busy, and it would take just a second to say phone calls are not allowed? Interrupting when I’m trying to figure out what someone on the phone means and rolling your eyes that I’ve broken the shop rules because I couldn’t figure out how to finish the conversation in less than 15 seconds is just rude. Again, this is the attitude of the cafe, and I strongly recommend having a nice cup of coffee in another place where people are less...
Read moreGreat experience. My partner and I had an ethiopian blend siphon coffee and kenya blend drip coffee/pour-over. they were delicious with unique flavors and really whole-bodied. I like mine better :) Also had one of their cinnamon rolls and a brownie w/ whipped cream and strawberries on top sprinkled w/ sugar. Also delicious. Brownie has nice chunks of chocolate, but could have been either more fluffy or more fudgy, because it seemed more like a thick cake and was a little bit dry. maybe if we had had it heated it would've been better, but they didn't ask us if whether we wanted that or not. the whipped cream and strawberries helped with the dryness though, and the taste was really good. The cinnamon roll was soooo good, nice and flakey and plenty of cinnamon filling with a nice glaze over top. it was a nice ratio of everything in my opinion. We had that one heated, which was a good idea. the owners are also really sweet and spoke English, but also used simple Mandarin which i really appreciate. 4 stars only because they didn't have any vegan/plant-based milk :( i think that would be a great addition, but i'm biased due to...
