The chicken pot was a comforting and flavorful concoction, filled with tender chicken pieces, vibrant vegetables, and a savory broth that warmed both the stomach and the soul. Each bite was a harmonious blend of spices and textures, truly showcasing the depth of Taiwanese flavors.
The fried morning glory was a delightful surprise. Crispy yet tender, with just the right amount of seasoning, it was a perfect accompaniment to the other dishes. The freshness of the morning glory leaves shone through, providing a light and refreshing contrast to the heartier fare.
And the Taiwan sausages were expertly grilled to perfection, offering a smoky and slightly sweet flavor that was utterly addictive. Each bite was a reminder of the rich culinary traditions of Taiwan.
However, as much as I enjoyed the food, I must address the service. The staff, unfortunately, seemed a bit inattentive and the timing of the dishes was slower than expected. It took longer than usual for our orders to be taken, and there were noticeable delays between each dish being served. While the quality of the food made up for this to some extent, it would have been a more enjoyable experience with prompter and more...
Read moreHighly recommended. Was looking for some Taiwanese dinner and this came up as an option with good rating. No doubt about it. We took the set meal which has adequate options to choose from. The appetizer selected was the fried pork belly which was good. The mains were excellent i.e. the stinky tauhu fried with century eggs, beef slices fried with onion, oysters on fried yu tiaw and the stir fried cabbage with dried shrimps. The soup option was again something different i.e. chicken plus yam (different type of yam and not the one which we are used to). Tasted excellent. There was a mix up of the soup option. As a result, a waiter came over to offer us some side cold dishes. He recommended the salted fried peanuts, sweet & sour baby tomatos and garlic cucumber. All were really good. As some one who is a fan of DTF, this place beats them hands down.
A special call out to the service that was rendered. It is no less than excellent. From the start when we arrived at the restaurant (with no reservation), till the end of our meal. Kudos to the service team. The dining area was also really...
Read moreCame for lunch with my in-laws before Lunar New Year and my return to Canada, a meal that carried both festive cheer and the unspoken pressure of making a good impression.
The dishes arrive at an almost alarming speed, as if the kitchen staff have been trained by an elite unit of culinary sprinters. The flavors are pleasant, balanced, and undeniably well-executed, but if you’re looking for a dish that whispers sweet nothings to your soul or ignites a passionate food epiphany, you may leave slightly unromanced. That being said, there’s nothing to fault, everything is enjoyable, just a touch… restrained.
Service is warm and attentive, striking that fine balance between efficiency and genuine hospitality. You won’t find the kind of aloof, theatrical service one might expect at a temple of haute cuisine, but rather a team that seems genuinely pleased to see you well-fed and content.
All in all, Jin Zhu is a solid choice if you want a well-paced, well-portioned meal in good company. Just don’t expect any of the dishes to haunt...
