Le Ble d'Or — Restaurant in Datong District

I waited until after my meal to write this review because I wanted to give an honest opinion about this restaurant.

In one word, I would describe it as mediocre. Everything about this place was average, if not below. First of all, the cheese sticks we ordered were hollow inside. Essentially, we were eating deep-fried breading with just a tiny bit of cheese, which was extremely disappointing. Secondly, the beer was just okay. That’s really all I can say about it. I’ve had much better beer in my home country.

As for the food, it was okay for what it is, but the sausage on the platter tasted cheap to me. It reminded me of my university days when I ate it regularly because it was affordable. The chicken breading was poorly done and overwhelmed the flavor of the chicken. The French fries were fine but not particularly delicious. The risotto didn’t really feel like risotto to me, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Lastly, the restaurant is quite small, but they try to fit as many people as possible, which results in the seats being too close together. Because of this, there’s a lot of noise, making it hard to relax.

Overall, the prices don’t reflect the quality of the food. It wasn’t a terrible meal, but it didn’t...

Waiters walked around in Lederhosen and wore german hunting hats(?)

Dined as a large (international) group and ordered several dishes to share, paella, grill platter, german sausage pizza (just had to see what that looked like), mozarella sticks, ... Not only did our food take forever to arrive (literally for some dishes over an hour), but when they got there, they were disappointing in taste at best. Our Spanish friend refused to take more than one bite of the paella. While everything was eatable, it was nowhere near as good as the originals. For the price tag, definitely not worth it.

The draft beer was good tho.

If you are looking for a spot to try european cuisine... don't go here. If you are not interested in the food and just wanna have some fun with your friends drinking decent beer surounded by waiters in costumes, then this place might be...
