I have been a pretty regular customer here for over two years.
The first thing striking about any caffaina is it's natural glam interior and atmosphere- full of woods complimented by marble and gold accents. Placing nature and calming warm woods at the center to calm the mind with elements of glam and culture to elevate what could have been more like being in the woods, but instead like being in a cabin with elegance.... also evidenced by books and images from wall to ceiling. Coffee is obviously the center point of this store as they have drip/siphon coffee and their coffee bean machines. Sprayed throughout are displays of the breads, pastries and cakes they make daily.
As a popular spot amongst locals, it's clear people use it as a place to gather, chat business and work with a laptop or phone. For such a popular place it has some of the worst wifi around, generally slow, sometimes unusable. There are plenty of plugs throughout though .Nearby cafes like ATC have far more reliable internet and work spaces though.
As a food location, I've tried a swath of all their offerings. Their coffee is what you see out of boutique coffee shops...however they are not very updated in their alternative offerings of milk and understanding if coffee trends...I expect at least oat milk, and possibly soy milk. Being in an Asian place you expect some to be lactose intolerant. They should have these just as your typical Starbucks or other Taiwan shops have.
Their cakes, pastries and breads are all above average grade so I will not go into detail.
In terms of their foods ranging from sandwhiches to salads to stews, they are decent food offerings in terms of quality and quantity. I can't fault them too much but also I can't say these are amazing food experiences either. Missing some kind of magic.
Overall a great place to hangout and grab something if you have the intent to meet someone or just be here to do people watching and sometimes to work (but this has become unreliable), and as a place to eat it's better as a bakery than as a restaurant. Go somewhere else for something more complete because this is...
Read moreSuch a nice location and beautiful setup. Unfortunately, the service is slow, and sadly, very poor. You pay $150 NT+ for a cup of standard coffee. Overpriced and bad service. The one and only time I went, they would not even heat up one of the pastries I purchased. Should I mention the horrible service I got from one of the ladies there? It seemed like we were being treated differently because we are foreigners? Also, please change your little timer / bell notification gadget! It's loud, noisy, and not coffee shop friendly! Add the super slow service to this! Super upsetting the service was horrible!
The only thing good was the nice-looking decorations and furniture setup. The pastries were also pretty yummy! But, it all doesn't matter if the employees are horrible. They really seemed in a bad mood and like if they preferred not to be at work. Which quite frankly, is not Taiwan-like. So sad. Lastly, I should mention that there was a nice lady working there that tried heating up my pastry, but the "mean" lady pretty much yelled...
Read moreCozy environment with a nice variety of patisseries, breads, sandwiches, pizza, salads; not to mention coffee and tea. It is a bit pricey, especially the beverages. Patisseries range from 60-150NT($2-5 USD). Beverages on average start at $5. The most disappointing part of the experience was the customer service and long wait time after ordering. There was a girl there who seemed almost indignant I spoke English. She made a face as soon as I started to speak, refused to warm up a piece a bread, and refused to exchange a bagel when I was misled to believe it was a cream cheese bagel. It's really disappointing how one person can really ruin a whole experience because the other girls were nicer to us. But we really felt discriminated against...
