Tai Chu Mian Shi — Restaurant in Taichung

My boyfriend and I was in Taichung for a day for our vacation, and was originally going to JYT Cafe beside this restaurant. We were very hungry, and we saw the good reviews so we lined up outside the establishment. It just opened that time and it had a long queue already, but it was a short wait.

The staff helped us with an English menu, and we were able to order smoothly. Had the Beijing style beef noodles, and they were amazing for the price! We also had the dumplings and were definitely filling.

Probably our favourite thing was the iced wintermelon tea that came with the meal. Its sweetness matched perfectly with the spicy broth.

Today Taichu is exceptional. I’ve been eating here before they moved to this location, and quite often recently. The quality of this place used to vary on a day to day basis, and thus I couldn’t really recommend it to any of my visiting friends. Recently they’ve improved and added new selections, and today I feel the food was just exceptionally made. Today the beef noodle soup had exactly two pieces of carrots and turnips and things were placed on purpose and you could tell efforts were made to make it more systematic, which is used to ensure the quality of the food. Most places’ quality degrades over time in Taiwan, but this place improved after so long, so it’s quite a rare gem and I want to reward it with a review...

My friend recommended the diner and it’s totally a place for beef fanatics. Since I don’t eat beef, I choose several side dishes for my lunch.

Overall speaking, it’s okay and I think the bill we pay mostly goes to their decorations which are indeed fine and comfortable. For their signature beef dishes, it’s tasty but a bit too salty and spicy according to my friends.
