Do NOT go here! They continue to serve shark fin on the menu. This is reason enough to not support this business. The garden is beautiful and I love the style of the place. The food is okay, not great. Also, we were the first to arrive and they literally gave us the worst table in a dark corner with no view to the garden. So service is not good, ethics are terrible and I will never return to anywhere that supports the wholesale economy of ecosystem destruction.
It’s so sad. This feels like a place that was magical 2 generations ago but was handed over to the children and then the grandchildren, with each generation neglecting it more and more. A redesigned menu, some modernization to the decor, decent service, a focus on reinvigorating the traditional atmosphere and it could be magical again. Now, it just feels like a tired old cheap place to eat mediocre food in a faded place with delaminating menus, dirty ceilings, damaged uncomfortable seats and no style at all. Read moreWe visited both tea houses in this area on the same day in hopes of experiencing the local tea culture in Taichung. It was good that we came to this one first for tea and lunch. All of the staff were very nice and the ambience was excellent. Their prices for tea and set meals (must try!) were reasonable and quality excellent.
Tips: We came a bit after lunch hour and so were able to secure a nice private room facing the courtyard.
When we left the manager offered to help us call a taxi and even greeted us on our way out! Excellent service indeed.
Then we visited 耕讀園 which is quite nearby. Compared to this tea house, their price and service were not as good, although there seemed to be more customers there. We wondered why. We went in January but still got bitten by mosquitoes (it was a warm day and I wore short-sleeves), beware if you are a...
Read moreVery good preserved old timber building and pleasant surrounding within the building. The building is surrounded by greenery in the downtown area which is very rare and has a pond with lots of fish and greenery in the center courtyard. Very like the dining environment will be on my top list in Taichung. If you're looking for a peaceful place for brunch or lunch this will be the one. Could either sit on the Tatami mats, in an individual room, or on a chair by a table both give you different experience and views.
Food is good, couldn't find any bad with the food. Will recommend the snacks the yam ball especially that's my favorite.
The overall experience in this restaurant is very nice just the service of guiding customer to a table and table service...
