The shop is well-known, but unfortunately, the coffee didn’t live up to the reputation.
We ordered the Panama Boquete Altieri Geisha Natural brewed with a V60. According to the menu, the recommended brew ratio is 1:9–1:12 for a 6oz cup or 1:12–1:17 for an 8oz, depending on the barista’s choice. However, the cup lacked clarity and depth—it was extremely watery, and I couldn’t detect any distinct flavour layers.
We also ordered the Panama 90+ Geisha Natural as a 1+1. The single espresso appeared very thick but had no crema. The flavour was surprisingly salty. I’m not sure if the same shot was used for the milk coffee, but that tasted okay—nutty, but nothing special.
Service was disappointing. The menu spans five pages but oddly doesn’t include any single origin beans directly on it. Instead, there are five small cards off to the side listing the available single origins. Within the first 15 minutes, staff approached us five times to ask if we were ready to order. It wasn’t until the third time that someone finally asked if it was our first visit and gave us a rushed explanation of how to order.
As a barista who has worked in many countries, I’ve never felt this uncomfortable while having a coffee.
I genuinely wouldn’t recommend this...
Read moreA wonderful little coffee shop in the peoples park/qin mei area. The menu can be a little overwhelming at first; you essentially you choose your roast (from light, medium-light, medium, medium-dark to a dark roast), and then choose your fill in ounces from water for an Americano style drink, to milk for a flat white, cappuccino or latte. They also specialise in hand drip, offering many different cones. If your not a coffee drinker it’s a great place to start, or for those who want to experiment with flavours or try different styles this is that spot.
Stopover is actually a Roasters, so everything is roasted in house. Because of this you can get beans from all over the world, washed and dried in every way possible. Roasted in different strengths. If you’re after beans, you should hit them up, as you can try multiple beans before you buy.
A great shop with a unique and...
Read moreHad a 5 star experience at the Coffee Stopover after lunch. It’s a cloudy day but I chose to sit on the balcony. First cup I ordered pour-over style with medium-dark roast. Second cup I chose americano 6oz with medium-dark roast. I asked the barista to choose beans for me on both occasions and she did a fantastic job. This cafe is very popular, got great vibes and a big selection of beans on offer. I would advise to turn up earlier to get the best seats and skip the queue. I will definitely come again soon and will recommend to anyone looking for...
