Very simple & nicely-presented dessert in a surprisingly cute stall in this little nook/alley filled with other hidden gems. Staff is very friendly and will point you to a table quickly.
I am a huge fan of pearl barley— even with the crunchy dark center that usually comes with it. This shop makes it without the crunchy center, which gives the barley soup a very nice texture (similar to congee but sweet!) to be had first with the matcha ice cream. Once you’ve tasted and appreciated the simplicity of flavors, the owner recommends only then that you add in the red bean and matcha jello.
“Not your mama’s barley” because the owner recognizes that younger generations don’t like the crunch and note that removing that crunchy center seems to make barley more palatable to picky eaters.

Well it seems if you take out, they won’t let you sit on their benches outside cause you ordered out. Well we’re seriously confused.
