Our second attempt at roast duck in Taipei and wasn’t fully satisfied with the feast this time around..
Having had a very high bar previously, we decided to try a traditional variant and it didn’t live up to our standards. The duck although freshly cooked and piping hot, wasn’t crispy on the skin like we hoped, and the skin wasn’t even served for us to enjoy on its own..
The other dishes were okay, but the waitresses tend to upsell their dishes - as we wanted greens and was recommended to a squid that was fry with greens and was charged the price of a squid. Heard the same for another table but for a fish instead.
That said, their service was good - changing out the plates promptly and even sharing a cup of warm water when they heard the elderlies coughing.
💰 it was also relatively pricey, at $3700+ NTD for 5 pax, for just a duck and 3 other dishes.
Not a restaurant I would return...
Read moreThe food here is fantastic! Every dish we had was delicious, the duck was so good we tried to order a second (pre-order only). However please be aware that the downstairs was very loud so we really had to yell across the table.
I’m also taking a star off from the review because of an issue during reservation. The staff had forgotten to write down my reservation of 8 ppl when I called, and so we showed up to no table even though our reservation and pre-order duck was confirmed on the phone. The restaurant manager handled it well so that we were able to get a table, but my group was waiting for 20 mins for them to sort it out.
Not a great way to start the dinner but good job on the team for recovering. Seriously suggest the restaurant to implement a better reservation system to prevent this from happening...
Read moreTraditional Chinese style restaurant with a few dishes from Thai and elsewhere. But the main draw is Peking duck. So far anywhere Peking duck is better than I have had in China. The duck is fatten properly and roasted to perfection. The wraps are served warm in a steamer with Chinese leaks and fermented bean sauce. The duck was sliced for skin and meat oriented people. Then the carcase was sauteed to Taiwan three cup style as well as a bowl of piping hot tofu soup. All in all, service is polite and attenative. You cannt go wrong to have a taste of what the Peking duck is all about. Albeit Beijing is claiming...
