A hidden gem in the heart of Ximending that serves unforgettable goose meat!

Nestled in a bustling corner of Taipei’s popular shopping district, 鴨肉扁 is a legendary eatery that may surprise first-timers with its name — while it says "duck" (鴨) in the name, what they actually serve is goose meat, and it’s absolutely phenomenal.

The goose is braised to absolute perfection — each bite is juicy, richly flavored, and cooked with such finesse that the seasoning seeps into every fiber of the meat. The texture is firm yet tender, and it’s clear this is a recipe perfected over time.

But the real magic happens when you pair the goose with their signature beehoon soup. The broth is light yet deeply flavorful, complementing the richness of the meat without overwhelming it. The beehoon (rice vermicelli) is impressively fine, almost like angel hair, and beautifully soaks up the soup to create the perfect mouthful each time.

The restaurant doesn’t overwhelm you with a huge menu of side dishes or drinks — and that’s intentional. They focus purely on what they do best: goose meat and beehoon soup — and they absolutely nail it.

Service is efficient and swift, though the staff might not seem very smilely. Food arriving promptly even during busy periods. The restaurant spans two air-conditioned floors, offering a clean, comfortable, and casual dining environment that's ideal whether you’re a local or a traveler looking for a satisfying meal.

Whether you’re here on a foodie pilgrimage or just strolling through Ximending, this is a must-visit. Simple, honest, and incredibly delicious — 鴨肉扁 delivers on...

I am very unsatisfied with this restaurant. The main reason is the service, bad attitude and huge disappointment for the taste of the food. The price definitely not worth for such a taste of food.

I travel a few places selling goose around Asia, I found that the food they serve are no match compare to Hong Kong roasted goose. Unfortunately their price is higher. Price and food quality can be tolerate but the service and attitude of the staff make me most annoyed. The moment I make an order and enquiries, the staff answer me rudely and not friendly at all in explaining the menu. I not able to read in Chinese word well. The staff who handle us was arrogant and disrespect me.

I visit to Taiwan a few times and I love Taiwan so much, most of the people are nice and having good courtesy. The way this restaurant treat customer really disappointed me.

Advice to tourist: Don’t buy the vacuum packaging goose since it will charge extra. Ask the price before buying half or complete goose because they might increase the price stated in the board. The price may subject to change depend on the goose size of the day. There is no fix menu to order for take away customer.

There is still other very delicious local delight in Ximending such as Ah Zhong Mian Xian and the extra-large fried chicken. It is definitely not worth for me to dine here. I totally disappointed with their staff attitude. Not recommend by me in term of service,...

Tried this for the first time, this shop has a relatively long history circa 50 years. It has a very simple menu which you can see from the pictures. So before I go on, this signage in this shops says ‘duck’ but what they actually sell is ‘goose’. Maybe there’s some history to it though I did not research it.

Menu

  1. noodles (yellow gee noodles or bee hoon, which is rice vermicelli)
  2. portion of goose meat, served separately from noodles. Just need to pick your size, you can choose just to eat the noodles which comes with a slice of meat and bean sprouts. (That alone is good for a light meal, IMHO)
  3. choice of goose innards, quite a few to choose from in this area.
  4. vegetables (blanched lettuce or bean sprouts)

Overall food was good but if you don’t like goose then it is not something for you. If you like you noodles more al dente then you might find the noodles a little soggy, which is somewhat how Taiwanese like their noodles. The beehoon option will not have this problem.

Personally I like the chilli / garlic sauce which was very complementary to the goose and it’s not pricey.

Overall a 3.5 to 4 star experience for a simple fare in clean conditions. Service was...

I cannot think of anything to say because my daughter beside me is very noisy.... The duck meat was braised but still retains its tenderness, which goes really well with its sauce. They also give a generous amount of thinly sliced ginger to go with the meat. The noodles, on the other hand, were soaked in the broth and lost some chewyness.

Really interesting restaurant. Only one dish: braised goose. You can choose the size. Side of vegetables (you can say yes or no there’s no choice) and a bowl of noodles you go with it. Really enjoyed it though. Clearly the locals eat here.
