Booked this hostel for 3 nights ✨
It is located in a very strategic position ( 2 mins walk away from Ximen MRT ) , with bustling streets , plenty of good eateries and convenience stores around.
The staffs were helpful. The common areas are clean and great for relaxing to wait for check in. Free flow of water refill. You can sit and have your meals at the dining table. Great wi-fi coverage.Cozy and air conditioned 💖
Also I appreciate the most - cleanliness of toilet & shower area. It is well kept with alcohol spray ( to sanitise ) , tissue paper , fragrant and most importantly as of for me , BIDET 😭🥹 the water pressure is strong and though the area is small for each , it’s understandable they had to squeeze in for the convenience of others to use at the same time. Shower gel and shampoo provided. Shower 🚿 pressure is good too. There was hair dryers at the corner but unsure if it’s the hostel’s property. The sound proof is quite bad , the music of the hallway area will help to cover😅 towels were not provided for free , ntd50 is required to rent. Slippers were provided and there’s plenty of space to store luggages in the hallway. I did not fully utilise the kitchen area properly but I saw there was fridge , microwave ? Trash area is being handled properly. Decent hostel , not a lot of social vibes for backpackers, everyone was just minding their work.
The room’s bed was cozy and clean , with a private locker provided to store important stuffs , be careful to always keep the access card with you as it’ll be needed to enter the room and to unlock the locker. One power supply and sufficient lighting were provided. The air conditioning is centralised.
CONS : the soundproof is really , REALLY poor so if you’re a light sleeper or looking for a place to sleep deep after a tiring day — please don’t book 🙏 despite the ear plugs , the noises are still heard , no one really does follow the rules ( slamming the door , loud talking among them and sometimes on phone , keeping luggages inside the room blocking the pathway , harsh climbing on bed while bringing up luggage - totally disturbing ! 😭) and in addition to that , there’s a karaoke just below the floor and it’s super loud up to late midnight. If only people obey the rules it is an absolute delight to rest. and mind you , I was there at a low season and weekdays , so I assume vice versa will be terrific 🥶 Prepare an sleep mask cause the curtain to close your bed is not fully covered and the light outside💡 will be on 24/7.
Ximen hostel is perfect with minimal flaws from their side. They do keep the rules and regulations printed & pasted in each room I suppose. Rest assured , they’ve provided the best they could offer with the source they have.
Stay with them if you’re in a tight budget and does not really care about the cons above , thank...

This hostel is situated in the busy area, for me personally it is quite convenient to go around, to go to MRT station it is just
Read moreI’ll cover the details not mentioned in the other reviews.
Layout: 1 floor, 6 rooms, 18 beds squeezed into the room I was in.
I would estimate 6x18 = 108 beds total. Bathrooms: 4 Showers: 5 Sinks: 4
Let that ratio sink in. Showers were not cleaned as needed (hair everywhere). Paper towels were not refilled, etc
The showers do not have bath mats. You’re going to need shower sandals or risk skin infections.
Worst part was an aggressive/toxic African American guest (he would stare down the guys with his shirt off, and trying to smooth talk the girls). Very aggro territorial man in a small hostel = completely ruined the charm of this trip.
And yes all the comments about the noise are true: the beds are literally separated with particleboard - I can feel the movements of the person sleeping next to me. Oh and rooms are not ventilated, air is stale - a petri dish incubator if someone is sick
The doors do not have soft close mechanisms, so they slam close unless your 15 roommates are mindful of softening the closure (hint: they’re not)
No secured space for your luggage, just leave it in the hall.
No security cameras in the rooms, so you’re at the complete mercy of the random guests.
Overall: just pay the extra $10 to get a room, or stay somewhere else that isn’t charging a premium for the location. Taipei has excellent rail system, and I would happily take an extra 30 minute daily commute to save 3x the time of managing toilet/shower (not to mention the peace of mind of security of yourself and belongings).
What about the other 5 star reviews? they must’ve stayed during low occupancy, or they just haven’t experienced a decent hostel or...
