Wangji Fucheng Zongzi — Restaurant in Wanhua District

Was craving for glutinous rice and found this with a pretty good rating. It's near Ximen MRT station Exit 4, few mins walk away and you'll also see the famous Milk Donut stall along the way so can drop by for some donuts before or after.

It's a small diner with a limited menu, order at the front first and if you are dining in, find a seat after ordering and they'll serve it to you.

The rice dumpling is generously stuff with many ingredients, chunky tender pork belly, a big chestnut, mushroom and peanut too. I wished though there was more rice and less ingredients. They also drizzle some sauce on the dumpling, something unique that we don't see in SG but I don't fancy that much.

I also ordered a Fish Ball Radish Soup that turned out to be the highlight for me here. So comforting especially on a rainy day like today. The fish ball is also firm to the bite which I like, almost like a meat ball. While this place is mostly famous for their rice dumpling, I say this is the true gem that one should...

Amazing zongzi.

It might look like a run-of-the mill store, but it's plain facade belies the tasty rice dumplings they offer.

Starting with the radish soup. The soup very flavorful, radish is cooked till soft, but not falling apart. I recommending adding a dash of white pepper. Now on to the main event!

The first scent is of dried bamboo leaves, followed by the spice mix that permeates throughout the dumpling. The rice is perfectly cooked, with melting, tender pieces of pork belly accompanied by a chestnut, mushroom and salted egg yolk. The splash of braised meat gravy adds more depth to the dish.

If you are thinking of taking these with you on your international flight, they also offer these frozen, but without the braised meat gravy (Next time, I'm gonna bring a bottle for them to fill).

這家店我是光顧過好幾次，雖然一隻肉糉賣NT$75是有點小貴，但東西好吃又營業到凌晨，我在2023/03/19 凌晨00:45 左右如常光顧。

我坐下來後，一位阿姨問我要吃什麼，我點了2隻肉糉後，一位老伯把餐點端上後向我收錢，由於我的錢包只有NT$1100現金，我掏出一張不太受歡迎的NT$1000紙鈔（台灣很多假鈔），等待著老伯把NT$850找回給我。

老伯拿著我的NT$1000紙鈔並沒有找贖，居然跑去聊電話，我心裡已經有所戒備（我曾經在中國的深圳遇過類似的騙案），一邊吃著肉糉一邊盯著老伯有沒有把鈔票收藏起來或者直接逃跑。

15分鐘後，我剛好吃完兩隻肉糉，老伯也剛好聊完那個漫長的電話會議（對話是使用台語），老伯把我的NT$1000紙鈔塞到爐灶下鐵箱裡後就沒有再後續跟進....😰

我立刻跟他說：你還沒把錢找給我！😳 他反應很古怪的說：我怎會沒找錢給你？😒 我再次用很堅定的語氣說：你真的沒把錢找給我！😡

可能我的普通話口音是濃烈的香港腔，又或者是我的長相比較凶惡，他不想把事情吵上新聞，就去收銀櫃台把我的NT$850找贖回來，但他並沒有任何歉意或道意。

原本我對台灣人的印象不錯，以為這件事只是一場誤會、或者老伯是患上失智症需要治療，但我看到這個Google map 的評論後，發現類似的事件在這家店是經常發生，我不是唯一的受害者！👎👎👎

I have visited this store several times. Although it is a bit expensive to sell NT$75 for a meat dumpling, the food is delicious and it is open until the early morning. I visited it as usual at around 00:45 am on March 19, 2023.

After I sat down, an aunt asked me what I wanted to eat. After I ordered 2 meat dumplings, an old man served the meal and charged me for it. Since my wallet only had NT$1100 in cash, I took out a An unpopular NT$1000 banknote (there are many counterfeit banknotes in Taiwan), waiting for the old man to give me back NT$850.

The old man took my NT$1000 banknotes and didn't change them, but ran to talk on the phone. I was already on guard (I once encountered a similar scam in Shenzhen, China), and stared at the old man while eating meat dumplings Did you hide the money or just run away.

15 minutes later, I just finished eating two meat dumplings, and the old man just finished the long conference call (the conversation was in Taiwanese), and the old man stuffed my NT$1000 banknotes into the iron box under the stove. Follow up....😰

I immediately told him: You haven't given me the money yet! 😳 He reacted strangely and said: How come I didn't give you change? 😒 I said again in a very firm tone: You really didn't give me the money! 😡

Maybe my Mandarin accent is a strong Hong Kong accent, or maybe my appearance is more vicious. He didn't want to make the news, so he went to the cashier counter to redeem my NT$850, but he didn't apologize or feel sorry.
