I have such mixed feelings about this place! I RARELY ever write a "bad" review, nor do I think this will be considered a "bad" review, just an honest one. I also love and want to support family owned and local businesses, so I don't want to put this place down. Our experience just left a bad taste in our mouth, and I don't think service like that is acceptable.

I do not ever expect a waiter/waitress to smile at us or be super kind to us randomly. But basic decency and kindness is an expectation. I genuinely had to reflect on my actions multiple times to see if we did anything to piss off the server. We did ask if they accept Credit card, so that might have been an issue? (they don't accept cc)

Lattes were GREAT, perfect in fact. I would come back here in a heartbeat to order takeout with minimal interaction. It was that good.

Our particular service was very poor that day. I'm complaining because I was fine with it, but my dad was clearly affected. This does not represent any other dining experience in Taiwan, and was an outlier. I'm hopeful this is an off experience, and that others have better times here because the coffee is truly great.

Coffee: 5/5 Service: 0/5 genuine confusion about this factor lol

I'm still left confused and really wish I knew what we did to make them so mad.

*Edit: after reading some of the other reviews, seems like we got a decent treatment after all, given the extremity of others'. At least we got a table and didn't have to wait! Only got glared at and rude tone, but we did not get shoo'd away and they let us finish...

Nestled in the bustling heart of Ximending, Taipei, my husband and I stumbled upon a charming coffee haven, Fong Da Coffee. Surprisingly close to our hotel, this quaint café has garnered fame among both locals and tourists, a fact we were blissfully unaware of until our visit.

The ambience of Fong Da Coffee exudes a welcoming warmth. We were lucky to snag a table for ourselves, a rarity, as we soon noticed a growing queue forming outside the café, a testament to its popularity. The time was just past 10 AM, yet the allure of this place had already drawn a crowd.

As a coffee enthusiast, I was eager to try their blend. While I found the coffee slightly too acidic for my personal taste – I lean towards milkier brews – I can appreciate why it would appeal to true coffee aficionados. The rich, robust flavor speaks of quality and care in selection.

An unexpected delight was the opportunity to purchase coffee beans on-site. Watching the beans being roasted added a sensory experience to our visit, enveloping us in the rich aroma of fresh coffee.

A standout recommendation for any visitor to Fong Da Coffee is their club sandwich; packed with flavour and perfectly complementing the coffee.

A word of advice for future patrons: arrive early. This gem is no secret, and a line is almost always present. Alternatively, embrace the local culture and be open to sharing tables with fellow coffee lovers. It's part of the charm that makes Fong Da Coffee a must-visit...

Very old cafe ☕️ in Taipei 🇹🇼 City. Here’s my take 😎

Firstly, it is almost certain you have to queue up. We went by after lunch 🍜and we had to queue for about 15mins. ⏰

Secondly, while queuing, you will notice several things are happening concurrently around you. At the entrance right hand side, popular Taiwanese biscuits 🍪 and cakes 🥮 are being sold. On the left hand side, freshly roasted coffee ☕️ beans 🫘are being sold. Lots of beans and you can buy them in either 450g or 250g ⚖️. Grind or in whole beans, then hot seal take away.

Thirdly, at the back of bean sales, there is a person roasting 🔥 the beans 🫘. It’s epic live action! Oh the smell 👃🏻of freshly roasted beans will kill ya! 😁

Fourthly, inside is the seating area. Seat and a friendly stuff 💁‍♀️ will come and take your order 🧾. The staff are very friendly 😊 and look like they have been working here for a long time. I could not say “less acidic” coffee but she fully understood me and explained that all their beans selected by their founder are low acidic types.

I marvel at all the old relic coffee brewing machines on display inside and see how this place has survived for so many years ⏲️ 📅

Coffee : Good! We order the Ice Latte 🥤, Ice Chocolate 🍫, Fong Da House Special ☕️ and an Americano. All well prepared and they are pretty good. (Honestly, it’s not great but it’s pretty good) Also picked out some local biscuits 🍪 and snacks 🥮 to go with our...

An old-school cafe famous for its long history and unique coffee equipment, where you can get siphon coffee and cold drip coffee here! The food options are rather limited to hams, eggs and toast and typically a small queue begins to form even before it opens! Their service and operation line does seem a bit messy, so there might be some delays and prompting. Breakfast Set (TWD 130) The standard breakfast set most people opt for - it comes with a couple of eggs, ham, 2 slices of toast and a cup of black coffee/tea. This set is quite limited as you aren’t able to change the coffee option to their more famous ones. Panama Geisha Siphon Coffee (TWD 200) The Geisha beans favour a more fruity note, with hints of grape and plum and has enough natural sweetness to make one think it’s a bourbon variety instead. Not sure if it’s because of the siphon brewing method, but the body is surprisingly very light. The coffee features a bright acidity and cooling the coffee down brings out better flavours of the bean and actually decreases acidity(if this is weird for you, I’m on the same boat!). Also, I think it’s a more old-school practice, but creamer is also provided at the side albeit not recommended for me as it ruined the complexities in the cup.
