This restaurant was on my to-do list when I came from the States to visit Taiwan, so a friend generously helped my group plan a dinner here. He called 3 days in advance to set up an order for this restaurant’s famous scallion pancake (which I heard, this location only makes 3 orders of it per day) and we were happily making our rounds with the food. Partway into dinner service, we ask about the dinner service, we ask about the time on our long awaited Chinese Pancake, and all of a sudden, I hear that it was sent to another group of customers? There’s definitely some frustration at the table, so we request to see the server who had made the mistake, and in the heat, one of our group yelled out in frustration about how unbelievable it could be that such a mess up had flown under the radar. The server tells us that we can wait 50 minutes for another one to come out, like she was asking us if we would still want it even if it takes that long to make, and it’s basically like she was trying to hurry us out of the restaurant by stating a decently long wait time. Even before offering a new pancake, she mentions that they had 5 pieces left of a pancake from ANOTHER TABLE as leftovers that they could offer to us, who does that? There was a pleasant atmosphere that evening that pretty much ended in that moment.
I’d still like to mention, the people that were tending our table were quite amazing, but there was one huge reason for this restaurant and it really messed...
Read moreThis restaurant’s signature dishes are the fried pork balls and the pork. We didn’t make a reservation. We went there at 5 pm. It has limited time, only an hour for 2.
No one came to the table order for us until we asked, that was around 15 mins past since we sat down.
We ordered some snacks which they already made, but still waited for another 20 mins to have all of food we ordered on the table. The food such as pork balls and the pancake roll weren’t hot.Tasted like they cooked for a while.
*Fried pork balls NT$280 (S) Crunchy, dry and cold. Quite disappointed with them. I think IKEA does meat balls better.
*Sliced pork NT$280 (S) The pork was very tender and good, especially eat with the bun and the special sauce. Seemd we got the fattest part compare with other tables.
*Pancake roll NT$110/ 2pc It tasted like fried dumplings but bigger.
*Sesame bun NT$40/ 1pc Better eat with the sliced pork.
*Red jujube cake NT$? It tasted like brown sugar cake but harder, more like...
Read moreAmazing! I ordered the shredded pork on cabbage (so good), beef and green onions (probably my favorite.. it has a slight char burned taste), the seafood dumplings, the side of carrot and garlic, and the sweet and sour soup. See pictures - they're very obvious what is what.
Everything (minus the sweet and sour soup) was delicious.. actually it was probably the best Chinese food I've ever had. There was definitely a language barrier, because I ordered 2 things, and the server kept "asking anything else"? I was actually ordering the small portion size, and I was asking "am I ordering too much food?" She didn't understand, but the answer was: yes, I over-ordered way too much food. But no surprise, I finished almost everything (except the soup). It's sooo good. Wish I could have tried the scallion pancakes (you have to order that 3 days in advance.. seriously, no joke - look at the note on my menu pic)
Hilarious they have a pic of the staff hugging president George Bush Sr...
