【Zhou Family Tofu Rolls】Like many famous online or queue-worthy eateries, where novelty is the biggest draw (bilingual 🆎)
📍 Tucked away in a small alley, next to Guangfu Market, it's a good spot to browse Guangfu Market if you're not in a hurry.
💸 Price: Tofu rolls are 35 NTD, cabbage meat buns are 20 NTD, and the most expensive item, beef roll cakes, are 90 NTD. Considering the increasing prices of breakfast, these are mid-range. Nowadays, a satisfying breakfast in Taiwan could cost more than lunch.
🧾 Ordering method: Order at the counter, and the staff will immediately prepare your items, then you pay.
🍴 Dining Environment: ⭐️ (out of 5 stars); dine-in was available before the pandemic, and it's been a while since the pandemic passed but dine-in still hasn't reopened, leaving no convenient places nearby to sit and eat properly (see photo below).
🧑🏻🍳 Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (out of 5 stars); the attitude was decent, but I noticed while in line that despite having many staff, they occasionally mixed up orders. To my surprise, I also experienced this when my order for a chive meat bun turned out to be a cabbage bun (since there was no dine-in, the mistake wasn't discovered immediately).
🌯 Food Index (Value for Money): ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (out of 5 stars); slightly on the pricier side considering the balance between price and taste.
🧂 The following three items taste quite bland without soy sauce, chili sauce, or other condiments. When dine-in was available, you could season to taste. Remember to add condiments at the table next to the counter before leaving (see photo).
🫔 Tofu Roll: The main ingredients are cabbage and tofu, with a light saltiness being the primary seasoning, giving a subtle tofu aroma and a hint of cabbage sweetness. Those who appreciate the natural flavors of food might enjoy this; the wrap is pan-fried on a griddle, offering a certain firmness and chewiness without being tiring to eat.
🫔 Chive Box: Although the chive flavor is stronger than cabbage, the overall taste is not heavy due to light seasoning. The tiny shrimp inside do a great job of enhancing the flavor, adding depth to the chive taste; the glass noodles inside act as a buffer for the oral friction coefficient, adding more layers to the chewing experience, which would otherwise be dull; the wrap is pan-fried on a griddle, offering a certain firmness and chewiness without being tiring to eat.
🥬 Cabbage Meat Bun: The item they mistakenly gave me turned out to be the best of the three. No choice, I'm a carnivore, haha. The sweetness of the cabbage and the juiciness of the pork blend harmoniously, with the meaty aroma spreading in the mouth. The bun's thickness and softness...
Read moreJust happened to find this place walking just past the Guangfu Market and saw a constant line of people waiting for food so of course we had to check it out. Not much seating but most people just take out anyways. Maybe seating for about 7-9 people max. We bought 3 soy milk drinks, a couple of their chives pockets, a chives pancake and a pork bun. Everything was very fresh and surprisingly not greasy. I think the total bill only came out to $4 USD which just adds to the appeal of this place. This restaurant is a great example of a place that serves only a few things but does them extremely well. Didn't get to try their tofu wrap but...
Read morethis has been on the to try list for quite some time, but have never been in Taipei early enough. finally got the chance.
tried their signature "tofu veggie calzone" 豆腐卷 (TWD 30). filling was a delicious mixture of somewhat oily chopped cabbage and tofu. the shell was marginally crispy but quite thin. rather good overall but given the amount of filling wasn't very dense and neither tofu nor cabbage are exactly expensive ingredients, it's rather overpriced. the provided chili oil did not appear to have much kick....
