Rolling Thai — Laksa comfort, coconut-chicken finesse, and a birthday perk that truly surprises
Rolling Thai delivers a distinctive Thai-style hotpot experience anchored by two standouts: a fragrant Nanyang laksa broth that layers coconut richness with prawn and spice, and a coconut chicken (“country chicken”) broth that’s clean, gently sweet and citrus-lifted—ideal for balancing richer flavours. The laksa option is available alongside classics like tom yum; the coconut chicken base pairs beautifully with seafood and sliced meats, keeping palates fresh over a long meal.
What sets the evening apart is the birthday month promotion: celebrate within your birthday month and you’re awarded as many complimentary prawns as your age (standard conditions apply, such as an à-la-carte spend threshold and one celebrant per table). It’s playful, generous and creates a moment—especially when the prawns arrive to a chorus of good-natured disbelief.
The setting evokes a relaxed, resort-like vibe with thoughtful service, making it well-suited to friends’ gatherings and celebratory dinners. Between the lively room, flexible set/à-la-carte ordering, and the condiment trio (piquant to bright), groups can dial flavours to taste without fuss.
Pros. Memorable broths (laksa; coconut chicken) with clear flavour definition; a birthday perk that genuinely delights; convivial atmosphere; seafood handled with care (the prawn showcase feels earned).
Cons. It’s popular—book ahead; laksa leans rich/spiced, which not everyone prefers for long simmering; birthday prawns promo has spend and ID conditions, and usually one celebrant per table.
Verdict. If you’re organising a friends’ get-together, Rolling Thai’s laksa–coconut-chicken yin-yang is a crowd-pleaser, and the birthday prawns perk adds a fun, celebratory twist. Check the latest terms...
Rolling Thai is a popular Thai-style hotpot restaurant in Taipei, known for using fresh, seasonal local ingredients from Taiwan, combined with authentic spices imported from Thailand, ensuring the hotpot stays true to its Thai roots. As soon as you step into the restaurant, you're greeted by a burst of Thai exoticism. The decor and details instantly remind you of Bangkok's street-side eateries. The walls are adorned with Thai artwork, while the warm lighting and wooden tables create a cozy atmosphere full of Southeast Asian charm.
For the dual broth, we chose the classic Tom Yum and the sweet coconut milk chicken soup. The Tom Yum broth is a perfect balance of sour and spicy, featuring the bold aromas of kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, and chili. From the very first sip, you can feel the strong tropical flavors—its acidity and spiciness are wonderfully matched, making it irresistible. On the other hand, the coconut milk chicken soup offers a completely different vibe. The broth is smooth and creamy, with the sweetness of the coconut milk complementing the savory chicken, providing a delicate balance that soothes the palate. These two broths cater to both those who love bold flavors and those who prefer something milder.
We ordered the T-rex Beef Platter, tofu skin, water spinach, cabbage, T-rex Pork Platter, handmade fish paste, and a Thai Milk Tea Tart. The beef slices were meticulously cut, and after a quick dip in the broth, they retained their tenderness without becoming tough. The tofu skin absorbed the essence of the broth, making it rich and flavorful. The cabbage and water spinach were fresh and crisp, offering a refreshing contrast to the richness of the broth. The handmade fish paste was particularly impressive, with its fine, sweet texture and a bouncy consistency. As for the Thai Milk Tea Tart, it’s a must-order for larger groups, offering great value for money.
One special mention goes to their birthday special, where birthday guests receive as many shrimp as their age, adding a fun and memorable touch to the dining experience. This thoughtful detail undoubtedly reflects the restaurant’s attentiveness, making guests feel even more cared for.
Overall, Rolling Thai not only preserves the authentic Thai flavors in its broths but also delivers every ingredient with meticulous attention to detail. From the visual appeal to the taste, it allows diners to fully enjoy the unique allure of Thai-style hotpot. If you're looking to experience authentic Thai hotpot in Taiwan, this is a...
Read moreGreat experience! I’ve never had Thai style hot pot and I think I really like it. Service was good and the atmosphere is nice, feels like you’re walking into a cute little Thai shack, but more elegant than a shack of course. The meat and seafood are quite good. I came here to celebrate a birthday: When you spend over 2000 NT, and have proof that it is your birth month, the restaurant gifts you a shrimp for every year you’ve lived! So bring your 90 year old relatives!!! However there was some concern that the shrimp that they give for your birthday are a little not as fresh. And some of those shrimp had the little black stuff still in it, if you know what I mean. I recommend to get the split style hot pot. I loved the signature Tom Yum soup, it was a perfect amount of sour, a little spicy, and fragrant. Also my spicy-loving aunt said it wasn’t spicy enough, so be...
