Tonkatsu Taipei Nanjing — Restaurant in Zhongshan District

Man, this tonkatsu is worlds above any tonkatsu I've had in the states, and for half the price! You can't beat the value in my opinion. There are free refills for rice soup, there is free furikake, and free refills if you get a drink.

But what about the main event? Crunchy, tender, fresh and hot pork cutlets. I got the popular one with some red in the meat, and man is it tender. I tried the regular pork cutlet too and that was almost as tender.

There is fresh chopped ?lettuce? you get on the side, and you get miso soup and a grass jelly dessert included.

We ordered three entrees, with three combos (a drink and a side). The sides we got were fried tofu and some kind of hybrid broccoli cauliflower thing, which was quite good.

We paid TWENTY FIVE dollars for all that. We'd pay close to eighty dollars (including tips) for something comparable in the states. Also the service was just fine, so it's unfortunate I heard some people had a poor service experience.

I wish we had one...

The food is reasonably priced and with decent quality.

The problem is that the service is/just unacceptable. It has been a common trend with this chain. Around 4pm, there's only one employee working the dining room. There's no urgency at all and there will be customers waiting to be seated. Trays are also not cleaned up after customers have left. Some have been sitting there for upwards to an hour. I don't understand why corporate thinks this is acceptable. Why not schedule at least two employees to service the dining room? The atmosphere and appearance really make me NOT want to dine at this...

We ordered the Fried Loin Tonkatsu Set Meal and Fried Chicken Fingers Set Meal, which came with rice, shredded cabbage, a pickled side dish, konjac drink, miso soup, and sesame burdock.

Both tasted amazing and delicious. The meat was juicy, not overcooked., and the outer crust wasn’t too thick.
