I've eaten at this place 4 times and the first two experiences were pretty good. Scroll down for the catch.
Food is a bit pricey for what you actually get, both in quality and quantity. But generally pretty good. And there's a nice ambience especially when sitting inside.
Here's the catch... The last two times I've been there they have tried to over charge me.
First, not confirming the bill and just bring me my receipt, which was clearly an over charge.
The second time and most egregious incident was when my son (12) and I (whom are both fluent Chinese speakers) stopped in for a quick bite.
I had beef tendon risotto and he had spaghetti with chicken and clams.. I also had one pint.
The waitress attempted to charge me over 2,000 NTD, with one of the items on my bill being a barbecue item.
Once I challenged her on this she proceeded to void the entire charge but then attempted to refuse to give me a copy of the voided charge being returned to my credit card. I had to adamantly insist that I expected to keep one copy of this voided charge receipt. She then proceeded to charge me the correct amount, but again try to take back the voided charge receipt. Things came to a head as I exited with my correct bill that had been paid for in full and one copy of the voided charge receipt.
She attempted to snatch the bills out of my hand saying I couldn't leave and take the receipts with me.
She then insisted that I must return the void charge receipt along with the original receipt in which she overcharged me.
The entire time this was happening she had already taken back the original receipt which was sitting on the counter in front of the POS system. Once I pointed out that the original receipt was sitting on the counter in front of a POS system and again insisted that I will take a copy of the void charge receipt she begrudgingly apologized.
I will not be returning to this place, is extremely distressing the lengths they're willing to go to to attempt to overcharge.
If you look like a foreigner be extremely cautious...
Read moreA creative twist on comfort food in a modern setting. I ended my Taiwan trip with dinner at La Tour Craft Beer in Taipei and it turned out to be a perfect final meal. The place has a sleek post-industrial look with exposed brick and concrete, stylish lighting, and an open kitchen that gives you a full view of the chefs working around the grill. It strikes a nice balance between laid-back and refined. I ordered the chef’s special soup of the day: a creamy potato and clam soup that was unexpectedly packed with flavour. The clams in particular were a surprise highlight: plump, juicy, and full of that briny seawater taste that brings the whole dish to life. The stir-fried duck with fries and mustard cream was satisfying and well-balanced, and the main dish of grilled pork tenderloin with scallops and prawns in a peppercorn sauce was beautifully executed. The dessert was creative: ice cream served over a base of red bean and sponge cake, topped with dried pineapple. Unusual but it worked. To drink I had their house pale ale, which matched the food nicely without overpowering it. La Tour sits somewhere between modern European and inventive fusion, and it does so with ease. You can tell they care about the ingredients and presentation, but it doesn’t feel fussy or overdone. If you’re in Taipei and want something beyond the usual night market fare, this is...
Read more-1 star for service because the servers don’t seem to know which dishes are their best dishes. They only know which ones more people order, but I didn’t ask about that. Please tell us the dishes in YOUR restaurant you/your chefs are proud of, or even you like personally. But it’s OK we figured it out ourselves: 剝皮辣椒義大利麵(best)、牛肉拌芝麻葉(second)、薯條的蒜味美乃滋(薯條太細!吃不到什麼東西。希望可以出 wedges!)were the best. The pesto risotto did not meet expectations: the corn didn’t fit in. The beef soup was decent. The fried oyster was decent. Apple cider was nice👍🏼 All the meat plates were decadent, could be improved tho.
Suggestion: chat with us about your story while we wait for the rest of the diners to arrive! The place was so empty yet the servers were just chatting amongst themselves. A missed opportunity.
Btw this is Taiwanese western food, not actual American or European food, not that there’s anything wrong with that. Some dishes were great and our family had lots of good things to say about the food and...
