Since 2021 i came regularly to Lukmaan and i liked the prices in the beginning but almost every time i left the restaurant in a bad mood because of their treatment. Unfortunately, very often they heat your food in a microwave!! In an actually professional restaurant and destroy the molecular structure of God's natural food. Why should you hurt and poison people with this? For microwave food i could go to my friend. It's causing cancer! Additionally, most times it's very full and chaotic and loud and full of different stinky smells. It's good that they now renovated and builded a new terracce to expand but they destroyed the big old baobab tree and show that they have no respect to mother earth. But the worst point is always the service. Every time i order an avocado salad as starter or to get it at least with the main menu of potatoes and beans i ordered. I asked every time in a friendly way if they could bring me pls the salad first because it's better for the stomach and easier to convert the veggies for the body within 20-30mins instead of 2-3h for carbs, so it doesn't ferment in my body. But always they brought me the main menu, and today i visited them with a friend to enjoy. But i needed to wait for my salad while my food was getting cold. Till here it's ok and i can tolerant. Mistakes happen and nobody is perfect but why do you always do the same mistake for 4 years? Even i ask before if you are able to do it and they confirmed it! Why the lie? But again, i ve got the main food but not my sald. Then after i needed to search the service waitress to ask what's about the missing salad i ordered first what she confirmed and that she will do, she said, it's coming, right now. But it was a LIE AGAIN! They still didn't start to make it! If the collegue got the order from her but ignored it im feeling sorry for her. It's not my intention to blame somebody but i hope they will learn from my feedback and people will have a better treatment than me. So in the end i ve got it after 5-10mins...the positive thing: the quality was ok but i hope they didnt put any processed vinegrette inside (sometimes the veggies are dirty or not cutted in a good way.) but my friend already finished his food so i needed to eat alone and my food was almost totally cold....AND then the waitress interrupted my meal to get the money because her shift ended...how disrespectful do you want to be? She is not a bad personen but why they are so mindless and lying to me and even after all this mistakes they never allow me to enjoy my food because of their ego...and this happend EVERY TIME since 4 years. So i will never come again. I don't understand why people love this bad service. Best one was that the supervisor came to ask if everything is ok, BUT left IMMEDIATELY! Even before i could answer because i was eating my food and had a full mouth what would be disrespectful behaviour by myself to speak with it.So yeah im feeling sorry to have not such a good feedback even they have so much potential and could be so good. if you wanna save money for local food, have time to wait and love to cuddle with people it could be the right one for you. And the juices are good but only if they are made fresh! Very often they lie it's a fresh juice and then they take a used bottle out of the fridge to fill in your glass and it's with added processed sugar! So neither fresh or natural. P.s.: Furthermore some people are so weird there...toady i saw a very young girl (maybe 4 or 5) trying to beat an innocent cat that sat on the ground very friendly and peaceful (not betting for food or like that, just peaceful and patient) and the father right behind her ignored her bad behaviour and to teach how to treat animals with respect and not beating them when they are not a danger...how heartless could you be? Very careless people...for me heartbreaking to see. I wish them all the best. But i prefer normal local food. Just 2,000tzs for a full bowl of beans with 10 kachori, 2 chapati and self-made avocado salad all for just 8,000tzs, no stress and i know...
Read moreI’ve been eating at Lukmaan for three consecutive days now, and I must say I really enjoy the food and the overall service. The staff I’ve interacted with have generally been very nice and welcoming, which is why I keep coming back.
However, today I had a very unpleasant experience at the fish section that really upset me. I ordered brown chapati and green peas (njegele) for 4,000 TZS, then went to the fish section and ordered a tasi for 10,000 TZS. The staff member specifically told me I needed to pay beforehand, which I did. I also ordered juice for 4,000 TZS.
When my food was brought upstairs, the plate only had chapati and peas. I asked about my fish and juice, and after a while, they were brought to me. But then I was told the fish section worker was insisting that I hadn’t paid him. That was very frustrating because I knew I had already paid as he had requested.
I even asked if they had security cameras so that we could review the payment, but he brushed it off and said, “If you say you paid, then okay.” The way it was said felt dismissive, almost like I was being treated as if I was lying. I honestly left feeling very angry and disrespected.
It even made me wonder: was this treatment because of the color of my skin and the fact that I am Tanzanian? Because I couldn’t help but feel singled out in a way that other customers might not be.
I truly love Lukmaan, and it’s a place I want to keep supporting, but experiences like this damage trust. I hope management addresses this issue, because one staff member’s behavior should not ruin what is otherwise an...
Read moreChaotic place and chaotic atmosphere (but then we were there just as Iftar was kicking off) but a worthwhile experience. The curries, rices etc (that we tried anyway) were nothing to write home about but the fish & the seafood was a whole other matter. Wow. Beautifully cooked fresh White Snapper and sublime Giant Prawns. All the seafood/fish is cooked front of house for those who may want reassurance, everything else in kitchens behind. The fish/prawns went beautifully with the Avocado & Mango salad, absolutely worth enduring the chaos of the place for,and the overly-friendly "waiter" who is certainly very good at taking you through all the 30+ dishes laid-out cafeteria-style but terrible at adding up the bill at the end of it all (on his pad...where he'll miraculously find another 30-40,000tzs to tack on). It's all so tiresome but so Zanzibar unfortunately, you just have to be armed to deal with it and assume you're gonna get bilked. They have menus hiding away in a small bag upstairs which they won't direct you to but just know they're there, with all the prices in print! Just having one there when it comes time to pay could well save you the afore-mentioned amount. If paying in $ you'll likely get bilked even more, everything is rounded upwards and then some if in $ (same as everywhere even remotely touristy in Zanzibar). Despite this, if nearby,go and enjoy the seafood cos it's flippin' good (and...
