There’s a reason this place has so many great reviews...because it’s awesome! This is old school, absolutely delicious Thai food that I just love; that’s getting harder and harder to find these days — even in Bangkok. It’s a family business (and a lovely and helpful family it is) and I was excited to see them creating pastes and herb mashes by hand right out in front. (I once took a cooking class at the Blue Elephant and learned just how mandatory a pestle and mortar is for proper Thai cooking and heard how often it’s not used because it’s so time consuming and exhausting.)

They are also very considerate about spiciness levels for foreigners. And by that I mean they don’t just dilute with coconut milk. You get the full flavor with whatever level of heat you want. Fantastic!

My tom kha kai was delicious as was my yam nuea with sticky rice. Also tried the tom yum goong — incredible but if you’re a farang and you ask for it spicy, be prepared. It is!...

I visited Thong Far restaurant during my visit to Bangkok when I was staying at the IBIS Riverside. It is hardly 200 metres from the hotel and the aromas emanating from the roadside restaurant were enticing.

I enjoyed the chat with the lady owner while our food was being prepared. We ordered chicken pad thai, tom yum soup, chicken fried rice, fish salad and a couple of other side dishes. All dishes were prepared fresh and we're tasty.

I am docking 2 stars though as I came to know later on that the madam (owner) charges twice for tourists over the locals...this is downright cheating and I hope they stop. If paying double than the locals does not bother you, give Thong Far a try...I for one will not...

AVOID - Rips off tourists. Was enjoying a lovely meal here until the bill came. EVERYTHING had increased in price and the lady was being very coy about showing us the actual bill. 3 months in Thailand and one of our most expensive meals for very simple Thai food. I checked back over the menu and she bought out another one with higher prices. So I found another menu. She was trying to charge us the highest price for every dish and I had to explain that the higher costs shown was for the choice of meat. For example; we had chicken she was trying to charge us for prawns. Some prices just wasn’t even there. A friend went the next day and she did the same to them. This...

Family run, home style and English speaking. Menu has English and will also cater to customers with food allergies. Great service, meals very tasty. Four of us shared omelette with minced pork, green chicken curry and fried morning glory first night and finished with Glutinous rice with coconut sauce and fresh mango. Second night, we ordered omelette with shrimp, pad krapow minced pork and stir fried kale in oyster sauce. We had these with steamed rice. The fresh orange juice was very refreshing too. Very satisfying dinner two nights in a row!
