A Memorable Birthday Celebration by the Chao Phraya River at Salathip Restaurant.
Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of celebrating my beloved aunt's birthday at the Salathip Restaurant, located in the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. We lovingly call her Ah Mai, and it was an unforgettable experience.
The evening began with a breathtaking sunset view, embracing us with the beauty of the Chao Phraya River, setting the stage for a perfect celebration. The scenic beauty of the riverfront added to the overall charm of the evening. We couldn't resist taking numerous pictures of the mesmerizing sunset over the Chao Phraya River before diving into our sumptuous dinner.
The culinary experience at Salathip Restaurant was a true masterpiece. Each dish was not only delicious but also elegantly presented. It was a visual and gastronomic delight that left us thoroughly impressed.
The service was impeccable, with a friendly and attentive staff that made our dining experience exceptional. Our server, Aom, was amazing, and she, together with her team (Pree, Pukkie), ensured that every need was met with a smile. We felt genuinely cared for throughout the evening. Manager Wattana's presence added to the overall professionalism and warmth of the staff.
One highlight of the evening was the enchanting short Thai dancer performance, which added an authentic touch to our visit. It was a beautiful showcase of Thailand's rich cultural heritage and added to the overall charm of the evening.
To make the evening even more special, the restaurant surprised Ah Mai with a complimentary mango glutinous dessert. The presentation was a work of art and provided the perfect sweet ending to our celebration.
In summary, our visit to Salathip Restaurant was extraordinary. We left with our hearts full of gratitude and appreciation for the outstanding service, delicious food, and memorable experience. I highly recommend Salathip Restaurant for special occasions or any time you want to experience the best of Thai cuisine in an exquisite setting, all while being embraced by the beauty of the Chao Phraya River.
Thank you, Salathip Restaurant, for making Ah Mai's birthday celebration...

Read moreThe riverside view is stunning, but unfortunately the experience stopped there. • Starters: tasty and well prepared. • Main courses: very disappointing. The tiger prawns were heavily overcooked, the green curry was congealed and inedible, and the dishes were not served hot. In a city like Bangkok, where Thai food from street stalls is often excellent, you would expect much more from a restaurant of this level. • Ambience: due to the rain only indoor seating was available. Inside the lighting was far too bright, making the atmosphere unpleasant and lacking any coziness. • Service: staff did listen to complaints, removed two dishes from the bill and gave a 10% discount on the rest. Correct, but it didn’t make up for the poor overall impression.
Conclusion: The view is great, but if you want authentic and well-prepared Thai food in Bangkok, you’re better off eating at a street stall than in...
