We had walked past this small restaurant multiple times during our stay nearby but didn't go in because we didn't have good experiences with Indian restaurants in Thailand. But we noticed it had really good reviews while looking through possible places to order a meal via Grab. Being so close, we decided we'd just walk over to eat there.
Absolutely best decision we made. We're curry lovers (as can be seen from other reviews I've made ... or didn't) and this restaurant not only served authentic, well prepared and delicious food but also had very friendly staff.
What we ordered wasn't spicy, though I'd imagine it could be if requested. We got recommendations from the staff for dishes for something different to the usual and safe Korma, Vindaloo or Butter chicken. Our two main dishes were a Chicken Dhansak - the sauce included lentils that were cooked until it had a creamy texture, and the Paneer makhani (an Indian cheese dish with a thick sauce). We also had the obligatory Garlic Naan. There was no disappointment with our choices. We ordered without thinking too much about the costs as they seemed reasonable ... and our final bill only came to THB585 (we didn't order any alcoholic drinks). Coming from Australia ... it was a major surprise at how inexpensive that was. The chicken dish alone would have cost us close to the total back home in a...
Read moreI was sceptical before visiting Curry Express, as many of their reviews come from "reviewers" who have never been active before... Anyway, time to try by myself then. I am not really a "connoisseur" of Indian cuisine, my knowledge being limited to "I like" or "I don't like". And my god, I really liked it. The waitress was active, attentive and knowledgeable, the food came out fast (little bit too fast for my main dish as I only had my starter for a minute or so). I had the sev dahi puri for starter and a chicken Madras for main course. Both were excellent (and the chicken was spicy but not excessively spicy). Prices are really really reasonable! Some room for improvement though. The paper napkins are so thin that I needed a new one after every bite of my butter nan bread. I must have used more than 10. Why not provide a more qualitative paper napkin with the cutlery? Also, this restaurant has the bad habit of adding the VAT to the bill instead of including it in the menu prices... I'll be back. But I hope they can get these two...
Read moreTried this restaurant in the afternoon and at first we were the only customers and the first thing i said to my partner was, wow! lovely smell.Then...I have an issue with Indian restaurants serving Tandoori dishes when they do not have a Tandoor oven, hence although the portion of 'Tandoori Chicken Tikka'was plentiful and cooked well it was a bit dry, lacked flavour and did not have the succulence that you get when it was cooked in a Tandoor, the same for the Nan bread which was insipid and had no colour or flavour. I will not be going back as i have eaten at many Indian restaurants and also am of Indian origin and know that despite the friendliness of the staff, this was below average fare. Took some food away and will review after eating it. My Prawn Biriani unlike the menu consisted of Frozen Shrimp in Basmati rice with raw spices which will for sure mean that i will need an...
