Worst meal experience in our 4 week trip to Thailand. Firstly we thought it would be good because it looked a bit classy and prices higher than most. Well everything is overpriced by at least 50% more than other good restaurants. Tax and service not included in their menu listings. It was hardly busy (basically only 1-2 other tables with a couple customers. The 2 waitresses were extremely extremely slow and usually disappeared somewhere. They didn't have a clue how and when to serve drinks (all grossly overpriced. My wife ordered the traditional galangal lemon grass soup which is supposed to come with chicken. There were mushrooms in the soup but all like hard rubber. The entire thing was inedible and almost no chicken. Absolutely terrible. We refused to pay for it. My dish had seared tuna. Looked wonderful and sizeable portion on the menu photo/description. Trick photography. Small portion, though tasty good, but the small salad it came with was plain with no dressing. I asked for some dressing/ vinaigrette so she brought me a bottle of balsamic vinegar. Not too smart. These people have no clue , no training. I went to speak to the evening manager at the hotel reception desk, and he was just as bad as the servers. This establishment deals mostly with foreign clients so I'm amazed as to how bad our experience was. Wasted over an hour and...
Read moreOn our recent week long visit to Chiang Mai we found the restaurant at U Chiang Mai. We enjoyed our first meal so much we ended up returning for 3 more meals!
It is very near Wat Chedi Luang and sights within the Old City and we enjoyed the quiet, air-conditioned atmosphere. The staff were always attentive and polite (with good English language skills).
The food was delicious - each meal we ordered. Our favorites was the Khao Soi (we tried both the stir-fried Beef as well as the Soup beef), the Pad Thai with River Prawn and the Pineapple-Chicken Fried Rice with Pork Floss. Each dish was full of flavor, plentiful portions and reasonably priced.
And - if you're in need of a refreshing beverage - ask for the Thai Iced Tea (it's not on the menu, but...
Read moreGood western breakfast with a smile! We had their breakfast buffet twice. Our family of 5 ate for about $35 USD, so about twice what you have to pay for breakfast in Chang Mai, but also about half of what you’d pay for the same thing in the US. There’s a buffet of things like simple pastries, yogurt, meats/cheeses, fruit, and so on. And then you can order things like omelettes, eggs Benedict, and coffee drinks from the menu. Our only complaint was they’re a bit stingy on some things like syrup and omelette fillings, but when I asked for more they obliged. We returned because it makes eating with kids easier, and they liked it! Also, the kids’ price is about half the...
