Terrible, terrible, terrible experience!!
Would NOT recommend eating fish here! Service started out great but didn’t end up well. We decided to eat here as the restaurant was quite busy and we were greeted at the door and served immediately. We ordered a Yam Glass Noodle, Tom Yum Koong, and a Grilled Seabass with Garlic and Butter. The Yam Glass Noodle was plain tasting, didn’t have much flavour. Tom Yum Koong soup was good and served hot but the shrimp was overcooked.
We waited quite long for the Grilled Seabass to arrive and it wasn’t good. Firstly, it had a thick layer of salt on the skin which isn’t shown on the menu photo (look at the fish’s tail in the photos). When we lifted the skin off, the area near the gills was brownish black. The skin was very salty, I only took a small bite to taste and my throat is still dry from it. The meat of the fish was not served hot, just warm-room temperature so the fish was not freshly cooked (maybe that is why there was so much salt). The fish meat itself had a slight pungent taste but we ate almost half the fish before noticing that the meat was slimy. When we complained about the freshness of the fish to the waiter, they just took the fish to the kitchen to “investigate” and came back to tell us that nothing is wrong. The owner even came out to yell at us saying that we had to pay for the fish since we ate half of it. He said that they receive fresh fish daily which seems unlikely to me since Chiangmai is landlocked. After some arguing, the owner who spoke Thai, mentioned police, and went to the back of the restaurant. This made us feel like he was threatening us with calling the police when we’ve done nothing wrong but complain about a fish that didn’t taste right. I proposed to pay half for the fish since half was eaten. But the owner entered 3/4ths the price of the fish on a calculator to show me. We agreed to pay 3/4ths at the end but I didn’t appreciate the hostess smirking at us while we were paying. Maybe this is just how they serve fish in northern Thailand. At the end of the day, the fish was bad and was such an unfortunate...
Read moreCame here for an early dinner and we ordered a pineapple fried rice with a Tom Ka Kai with a Thai milk tea (not sweet) and a beer.
The lady asked if we wanted the ka kai spicy and we responded with medium to hot. Upon arrival of the dish we both tasted no spice, and were a little surprised that we didn't even see one chilli in there. I am assuming that many caucasians cannot handle their spice, but to not add any is a little rude. The pineapple fried rice was of normal quality.
The beer came cold and the Thai milk tea that I requested not to be sweet still tasted a little sweet but was very happy it was the least amount of sweet you could probably get.
Service was a little slow despite us being one of the three tables they had occupied in their restaurant. Upon giving our order the dishes came out promptly.
For the total dish we both paid around...
Read moreNot a good experience today. Was hoping for a nice dinner here but had an issue since I have a nut allergy. Requested to the staff to make sure there was no nuts (peanuts and cashew) in my pineapple fried rice. The food looked amazing when it arrived but when I started eating, I bit into something hard and realized it was a cashew nut and spat it out before I ended up swallowing it. Would have been a bad situation. Think the kitchen staff messed up big time on this since they somehow put one cashew nut hidden in the middle of the Rice. Very dangerous and don't recommend this place to anyone. Small portions of...
