Starbucks (Thapae) — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

I never go to starbucks because it’s always extremely overpriced. But now I had to work on my laptop and since this is the only coffee shop that closes late in the evening I gave it a try. Usually starbucks is known for its good working ambiance and good wifi. Here is not. There are almost no nice tables to work on. They designed everything for people sitting on low benches and coffee stands/tables, too low to work on. More importantly the WiFi is HORRIBLY SLOW. They restrict the speed to your device. Download speed 10 mbps upload speed 0,91 mbps. Good luck working with that. Also needs to fill in all you personal information to acces the internet (passport numbers, phone, email, name etc.) so they can track whatever you do , absolutely love the privacy. I won’t be back here for my internet needs. Internet in the small coffeeshops around the corner is 100 times better without any restrictions or monitoring oh and the best thing , its cheap and good for gods sake. I hope more people would move to local coffee shops like “nice sweet place” 4 minutes down the road instead of supporting these overpriced...

This Starbucks unit is convenient located, just across Thapae Gate, near the old city center.

Good place to chill and to work for hours. The cafe has lots of tables, sofas and chairs and also is well provided with plugs. The wifi connection is strong and reliable.

The building has three main areas with powerful A/C (you may want to bring a jacket with you). Third floor offers also an open air balcony, which is good for warming up.

The restrooms are ok, but sometimes can be a bit dirty.

on sunday evening last week we went there and was totally astonished to see staff bad behaviour. I was waiting for my friend and decided to order later. my friend came ten minites later. There were two staff who got angry.They come to me and order me hurry up 5 minities and then 2minits. Never face this type off behaviour in the other branches in Thailand. but as a foreigner I feel ashamed. Living here many years. Worst service here. The staff should learn manners and stop rude behaviours with customars. I hope the service will be better next time if they take...
